Avg fish seen: 12
Max. number seen: 20+
Number boated: 6 (first three days)
Number missed/lost: 3
Size range: 36"-51/52" 35 lb.

Fishing was very good on Mille Lacs the week we went up. The first three days were phenomenal. The night bite was pretty good, too. I boated a 43" and other folks put up multi fish nights with a 50" being the biggest night fish we heard of. Bucktails off the weedlines seemed to be key at night. During the day all we fished were the sand flats. The best bite was right at the crack of dawn and late evening-1 hour after sunset. Plastics moved at least 50% of the fish seen. However, I lost two mid 40s on them, and the topwater (prop baits and zig-zags) seemed to be the ticket. We caught 5 on top (49", 45", 41", 40", 37") and only one a bucktail (43"). Most fish were up REALLY shallow. We're talking two feet, sometimes less. The range we found them in was about 2-4'. Any area with a clearing (no houses or trailers) seemed to be the most productive, though the fish were EVERYWHERE. Unfortunately, we had a cold front blow through and that seemed to take the steam out of the bite. We did move a bunch of fish, and some ate, it just seemed like they weren't quite as aggressive as when there was more stable weather. I hope this helps anyone that ventures up there in the next few weeks! Stick a pig!

Karl,

Mid Sept. - October you should come down and hit the water with us. Great time on Shelbyville!

Dad had set a goal to break his personal best twice this year. He did so in two days. If you haven't gotten up there and don't care about looking at the same trailers and houses for a week, YOU NEED TO GET UP THERE!!!

Talk soon.

Congrats on the fish...that is truly awesome that you were able to have that much success on that lake...I was there 3 weeks agoa and it was a sewer then...could only see about 2 feet down...and the wind was blowing pretty hard most of the time...only saw one fish in 3 days too...
