What does everyone use $12 pair from Walmart, Maui Jims, Ray Ban? Is there a grading system or difference in lens quality? Does it make a diffrencecheap vs $$$?

Coasta del Mar Fathoms, blue lenses

They're great in bright sun, but not so great when its cloudy or getting dark.

If I had to replace them, I'd look at Ocean Waves in backwater green. More guys recommend them than any other.

I used the cheap $12 Cabelas and the $16 Bass Pro and now have the Ocean Waves Backwater Green Glasses and have to say I think the money is well worth the extra dollars. I've heard guys claim that there $9 Walmart glasses are just as good but the FACT is they are not.

We just returned from our annual trip to LOTW's and I saw fish I never would have saw before. My brother was using his cheapo Polorized glasses and never saw follows that I did see. I spotted deep weed areas that he said were not there. This is the same thing I have experienced with others when I was the one using the cheap glasses.

Bottomline is- If you are serious about FISHING then purchase some serious glasses. There is a HUGE difference. Lastly, I love the Ocean Wave Backwater Green Glasses. Pete Maina recommended them personally to me and he didnt steer me wrong. (thanks Pete)

Ocean Waves, Chicago frame with backwater green lense. I have compared these to many others as far as "seeing in the water" and nothing has beat them. My wife got me them as a gift a couple years ago and I absolutely love 'em. I think it comes down to how much time you spend on the water as to how much you can realistically spend for sunglasses. I probably would not have spent that kind of money on myself for glasses . . . . . but I am glad she did!!!!!

Native Eyewear makes an awesome pair for the money, their RippAsphalt with the green lens is by far the best performing pair of sunglasses I've used. They really allow for excellent vision into the water. The green tint really helps with definition.

Costa de mar is my favorite, I use the green mirrored lens(amber tint base), amber and sunrise yellow(for low light)...
Others like Ocean Waves... Backwater Green(amber tint base) and crown royal luminater(purple mirror, yellow base for low light) are the two to get there... spend the money on good ones, your eyes will thank you when your old.. the two brands i mention are said to be the best for fishing, with costa del mar being owned by fisherman..

Esaoxaddict, try the costa green mirrors instead.. the blue mirror is a green or gray tint base.. that makes a huge difference.. Older costas with blue mirror had a amber base but it was changed some time ago..

I know they are not as good as the $100+ glasses, but I found some in the optic department at Walmart for $35 that are close. They have good optics. They are a light smoke color with aluminum frames. You even get a free hard case.

I always bought garbage glasses never Wal-mart garbage, but the 10-30 dollar type garbage, this year I sprung for a $50.00 pair and my pain in the melon disappeared, worth the few bucks more, and don't forget Wal-Mart is the Devil.

I have been buying the $9.00 Wal*Mart specials because they my face and offer good protection and visibibility in the water. They do scratch easy and do not hold up to much abuse. I find I am replacing them far too often.

I have 3 pairs of costa del mars, the fathoms. I put on a pair of the ocean waves in the green lense a buddy of mine has and liked them too. I hear the other ones mentioned above are good too.

If you get them, get them on ebay. the fathoms retail at 109, which is what i paid for my first pair. I go the next two brand new on ebay for 70 each.

Ocean Waves Backwater Green are the best to see in the water but they are pricey. Ocean Waves Crown Royal Illuminator are the best for low light conditions. Cheapos do the trick, but for any price these are simply the best!

I use the Costa Del Mar Extreme series, I have one in grey and one in brown, for different days and the conditions. I have one pair I use for driving my vehicle. They are not cheap, like 80-100 bucks a pop, but they really form to your head really well. You do not have to wear any lanyards or anything either. I can look sideways while doing 60 mph in a boat and they will not fall off either. And best of all, is Costa Del Mar and their warranty and the people there. They back up the name 100 %. I have been wearing them for over 10 years now, and I have turned everyone I know onto them. You know those follows you see, but the guy casting doesn't ? With these, I see em every time.

Any recommendations for clip-ons ? Heavy prescription sunglasses with polarization, anti-scratch coating, etc, are not cheap.

In my opinion prescription polaroids with all the goodies are well worth the cost. You have to look at them as a long term investment. After constantly struggling with wind, glare and headaches caused by clipons I made the jump and could not be happier!!

I finally broke down a couple of years ago and had a pair of perscription polarized made up. It sure is nice to see well and not deal with a lousy pair of clip-on's. I don't know how they compare to high quality polarized optics but suit me.

Since I have to have prescription glasses, I had a pair of customs made in a heavily polarized lens, glass so I don't have to worry about scratching them.

Ditto with the other Walking Bull. Presciption glasses, polarized clip-ons and scratch resistant coating. Before I needed glasses I was a big fan of the glasses that had the side shields too. I think that I'll pick up a pair from the local gun club, because the sun behind you can give you reflection problems.

I just bought some of Al linders EDGE glasses, for 15 bucks, they are pretty nice, comfortable and light. So light my buddy left his on when he dove into the lake to cool off. He didn't mind spending another $15. neither would I.
