Howdy and thanks for looking. We are strongly considering renting a houseboat on LOTW in late Oct. Anyone out there have any experience with this and have some opinions concerning it for that time of the year. What are the accomodations like? How do you fuel up your boat for a day of trolling? Is it safe? Amenities? Do you just beach your fishing boat next to it? Is it warm enough? Breakdowns? Winds a problem? Beds OK? Thanx!

thats one I've found, but then lost the search on Google, will try to do more later.

Seems like you get the boat for as long as you want it, and drag your boat behind you.

We have been doing this for the past couple years. They work out great and are nice. You have a TV, DVD, huge freezer, fridge, stove, microwave, and shower. The houseboat is loaded with fuel which you can use for your boats. They will also make a run midweek to wherever you are and refill any supplies you need...food, gas...

The nice thing about the houseboat is you can park it anywhere...right near your favorite reef if you want.

Yes, you just beach and tie off the houseboat...and beach your boats are tie them up to the side of the houseboat.

It is a great option and can be dirt cheap. We leave this week and I have 6 guys going...total cost for house boat 250 each.

If you have any questions email me at [email protected]

We have used different places in the past...the one above is for the Sabaskong Bay area...

Thank you Johannes--glad it worked out for you. My concern was if this was an OK idea in the late fall. Sounds like a good deal overall and certainly locates you right on top of your fav spots.!

We rented a Houseboat the week of Labor Day last fall out of Morson, On. We had 6 guys for the week. Most of the rental places offer pretty good discounts in the fall. The first 3 nights were spent by Miles Bay. That was a waste of time for Muskie fishing for us. They brought the boat out for us and parked it. We were free to move it if we wanted (we didn't). They would move it for us 1 time for no extra charge. We had them move us to Sabaskong on Tuesday morning. The weather was terrible the first 3 days and we didn't catch a fish. From Tues - Friday we caught 14 fish. 47 inches was the biggest. Miles Bay was pee green over labor day. Sabaskong was much clearer. Our boat was 55 feet long. It was a great size for 6 guys. You an cram many more if you want. It was an awesome experience. Our houseboat only had a 20 gallon tank to fill your boats with. I brought 4 - 5 gal cans in my fishing boat and we went to the Morson marina to fill up with gas when needed. It was about a 20 minute cruise from our camp site. I'm sure Oct. will offer some brutal weather. Labor day last year was in the low 40's, windy and wet. We went through a boat load of ice during the week and thought we would walleye fish (bought about 100.00 of bait from the rental place and didn't use). I think the total rental was around 2000.00 including tax, bait, gas (houseboat and fishing boat). Split 6 ways with food for the week it was about 450.00 bucks a piece.

We tied our boats up to the side of the houseboat. Face the front of your boat away from shore and tie the back of your boat to the lines securing the houseboat. This will keep your boat from slamming into the side of the houseboat, when the weather acts up. If you pull up on shore, you might wakeup with a boat full of water if the waves kickup (we did).

Not a bad price if I wouldn't have took the lower unit from my Johnson 115. Had if fixed at Morson Marina for a measley 4000.00. Only lost 3 days of fishing when the first lower unit crapped out after about 2 hours. Thank god for boat insurance. Spend an extra 20.00 and buy a hydrographic lake map. The rock I hit was on the map I bought.

I can't wait until I'm able to go on another houseboat trip. You won't be disappointed.

we just got back from a houseboat trip on LOW
It was a great trip we had 4 adults 2 boys and a baby 5 months old.
we rented a 44' boat and it had plenty of room. This boat would work for 6 adults, 8 would be tight plus they have bigger boats .

The Cool part about the trip is I (we) realy got to enjoy Lake of the Woods just cruising around driving from the top deck of the houseboat. In the past we were always running aroung fishing not much relaxing. Nice Change The Kids had a Blast with the water slide , jumping from the top deck and fishin.
The thing about the houseboat is you can park it wherever you want to fish but you burn up fishing time driving the Ship around a 7 mph. Yeah we did troll from the houseboat no takers. Had the new Giant Beliver out. i couldnt stop looking at the rod tip waiting for it to loadup!!!

I will do this again.. We rented from HOUSEBOAT ADVENTURES out of Kenora their phone is 1(800)253-6672 great people and everything worked great on the boat. They had the best deal search them on the web they have a site.

Boat fuel: I went to resorts and filled up or used the 5 gallon cans. the houseboat has plenty.
Accomodations: everything you have a t home its like a big trailer/moble home inside.
Boat Parking:When you beach the houseboat you can tie your boat to it like a dock ours had tires on the side for protection.
Warm enough: Im not sure if it had a heater in it god knows we didnt need one in july.
Breakdowns: Our boat was wll maintained. and ran great.
Winds: I would not recomend taking it out on big travers but we ran it fine in a 2 footers with wite caps I dont think you would want to drive it in much more than 3-4 footers.
Beds: didnt matter we were so pooped rock would have worked. but the beds were fine better than most camps.
Do it you will have a fun trip

Thanks guys for the great help. I'm still wondering how it'll be in the nasty weather of the late fall though! The resorts up where we'll be fishing are closed then so travel for boat gas will be pretty far! Sounds like a great experience though!

I have taken a few trips on Rainy in the later fall with no problems. The houseboat had a propane fired furnace, so was plenty warm at night. The generator we had along recharged the boat batteries, and we carried enough fuel for the week for everyone's boat needs. Water is stored in tanks onboard, so that wasn't a problem. We tied off to bumpers on the side of the houseboat, the houseboat being secured to a lee side of an Island. The radio onboard was set to communicate with the houseboat rental operator, so if we needed anything, he brought it to us using his gear transport boat. All in all, I really enjoyed the houseboat trips I've taken, and would do another in a minute if I had the time.
