Subject: lb test will disqualify a world record????


Ive had somebody tell me over and over that if you use line over 160lb test and you catch a world record that it wont count because 160lb test is the maximum for fresh water,,I know of someone who special orders 200 lb test for wishmasters and basin baits so they dont get lost,,,,The person that told me this does alot of research on fishing and he has alot of formal education with a high IQ ,,,I just dont belive this,,does anybody KNOW if their is a "maximum" lb test for submitting record fish,,,I know some leader material is 175lb test

Great IDEa on saving your lures. I'd still take a 70 lb fish even if the IFGA said I didn't count...

The break test strength of the leader material is irrelevant if the line is less that that. The weakest portion of the line, leader combination probably has to be less than a certain point. I doubt many of us fish w/ 175 lb. line and an even heavier leader.
