| Two weeks from Monday I'll be at red wing lodge on Sabasong bay. First time heading to LOW and I'm just looking for any must bring lures, colors, idea, anything that will help? I was at thorne brothers last night and they said it should be blooming up there by then, so make it loud and bright. | |

| Just go to Thorne Bros. and get one of everything!! Just kidding (sort of). Black is the favored color, mixed with red , white, or yellow. Prism blades on bucktails seem to work good in the bloom, giving a little more flash. Black and yellow bumblebee pattern on cranks and gliders is good. Then again, I got my biggest fish last year on a black, charteuse, red, yellow, and orange bucktail with a fluted silver prism blade. Sometimes you have to use something a little different by this time of year, as they've already seen most of the favored stuff. Don't forget big floating Rapalas, size 14 or 18, either. Good bait to work over deeper weeds and/or rocks, and can also be used as a semi-twitch bait.
It all works at times, or else there would only be a couple of baits, and we'd be walleye fishermen!
Enjoy, you'll have a blast. | |

Location: Southern W.Va. | For what it's worth, these are lures that I would not leave home and would probably bring at least 2 of:
bucktails: Mepps Tandem black/yellow tail- gold #5 blade
Black tail - orange blade again #5 blade
Ghosttail original or something of that size to work over weeds( Voodoo tail
little Eagle Tail,Buchertail 700,Bootail, Harresser,ect)
Spinnerbaits Many to choose from, I like bright blades and bright tails for the off colored water
Need at least 1/2 dozen
Topwater Bring 'em, you'll need them ( Topraiders, Tallywackers,Teasertails,Docs ,Weagles, Stompers,
Jackpots, Thunderheads,Globes, Ect.)
Jerkbaits Love 'em ( Sledge (9" unweighed),Undertaker,Berts,Manta, Phantoms(8")Suicks, Reef Hogs, Bobbie Baits, Bring them all .)
As far as locations, look to the wind, if it's beating up a shoreline and pounding the rocks then look for fish to be there too. I've done better fishing the wind blown area then in the slack water areas.
If it's calm, look for deeper weedbeds ,I like to fish the rocks in the wind and fish the weedbeds and weedy shorelines in calmer conditions, try to stay in the 12'-15'- area and cast shallow. Calm evening? put on a good topwater and head to the nearest island with shallow weedbeds and hang on. 1'-2' chop? find a midlake rockbar and put on a Sledge or ReefHog or Bobbie Bait and work the windblown areas. Look for saddles between rocks and islands or between rocks that are 30' to 100' apart. If given a chance , head north of your camp and fish the Rabbit Island area , Lots of shallow weedbeds , rocks and most of all Fish.
If that doesn't suit you , then try East northEast of your camp and fish the area (shorelines) north oF Round Island and Horseshoe Island ..
Good luck and I hope this helps,
