I was up at my place in Vilas Co this weekend and we noticed a plane constantly flying over the Cisco Chain of Lakes. The plane looked to be a little bigger than an average Cessna and it had a white "arm" sticking from it's tail.

Got me to thinking it was maybe Mapping Specialists or Lake Master surveying the chain for new maps. Do map companies use planes for laying out grids or mapping features for lakes? Come to think of it, how do they make maps?

GMG,
I have a hunch you may have been dead on with your guess. Mapping Specialists will be releasing a map of the Cisco Chain this summer. They will also have a newly revamped Pelican Lake map. I know the guy that helped them with the Pelican map, he fishes it alot!

This is a link to our DNR. Shows how ours are done using GPS, and depth sounders.
