Location: nappanee IN | do muskie shy away from certain boat colors? like if there are a lot of tan crestliners do the musky start to get color shy? or just busy boat traffric in general? just wondered cause there are a few tan boats that fish northern indiana lakes. might just be a dumb question but i remember that larry rammsell did that tracking for in-fisherman where the radio tagged muskie shy away from certain colored boats after they were caught then released.. just wondered.. thanks..karol |

| Just rub it down with a gallon of Fish Formula and don't worry about the color.
Don't laugh, I know a guy who used to spray fish attractant on his outboard shaft and prop, same with the trolling motor.....must have been chumming

| Karol, I have tan bottom paint on my Lund and I have yet to convert a figure8. In the clear water of webster I assumed it was just because of high fishing pressure. I've only had a few, less than 5, fish see the boat and not bolt off. |

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | My boat is as white as Jonesi's tighty whities, and I've caught a number of fish on figure 8s while fishing out of it, and have had days where up to 30-40 fish come up to the boat following. Tommie saw Shamu on Eagle (clear water), and I've moved a LARGE number of 45-48" fish on other clear water systems fishing out of my very boat. Though I rarely wash her, my boat is probably more of a beacon of color then most out there, and I dont think its the color of my boat that affects my fishing....probably more where my boat is when I'm fishing (usually with the wrong bait, at the wrong speed, to the wrong depth, on the wrong spot, on the wrong day).
What does a muskie think: "oh crap, that big (white, black, red, blue) thing in the middle of nowhere has now convinced me that this hunk of (wood, plastic, metal, deer hair) that I'm chasing ISNT A FISH!!!???".
There are about a thousand variables that determine your fishing success, I really don't think that the color of your boat hull makes that any difference.

| Agree, but I'll bet that shout, "There's one!" followed by the quick movement, and foot stomping did have an affect on the following muskie.
I have a tan bottomed boat, and while some muskies shy away, I have caught fish at boatside. The last ine was trolling on a down rod with 5 feet of line out. The bait would have been right at the back of the boat, maybe 4 or 5 feet down when the fish took the Jake! Exciting stuff! |

| I don't think it makes a bit of difference. Muskies are used to seeing boats all over the place all the time. Since boats don't chase them and don't bite they probably don't even pay any attention to them. They may spook when they see you moving around, but if the boat spooked them nobody would ever catch one.
Maybe you should paint a school of shad on your hull just in case.

Location: syracuse indiana | karol, like mike and i are gonna paint our boats to make you happy...lol i dont think that makes a difference. sound and movement is got to be the worst. if u make a quick sudden move they will spook. and always think about what you are wearing will it blend in behind you(in the sky) think about what that fish will see! also if she is interested more in that bait and you are working it properly she will keep her eye's on it and dont make sudden movements and you can get her to hook up.....bill |

Location: nappanee IN | thats not what i meant bill,i'll just use a different color boat like alumim-rats, can't even spell it- the color of the metal on the boat before it's painted cause you know some of us are different not special-- see you on the water |
