Any tips for fishing the Chain this time of year? I'm heading up next weekend, but haven't fished it this early before. I heard that the duck hatch is soon, which would lead one to assume surface baits are productive. I know the chain is a good surface bait water, and I nailed a few on topraiders there last august. Any tips for next week? Thanks!!

they had a pretty big tournament this past weekend with good results saturday and tough fishing on sunday. we had more severe weather saturday that was the likely culprit. you should be able to see more details out on the sites from pro's that fished it. fundamentally we've had consistently warming temps. with most reaching into the 70's on the surface now. lots of weeds and the only thing that has made the obvious tough has been the severe weather that has been a daily experience almost for over a week now.

look for weather to stabilize and patterns to return. it should be a great 1-2 week window for a "faster" feeding pattern to setup. i've been fishing the nightime window and have moved some nice fish on hellhounds and had some topwater action also. the topwaters i've moved and caught fish with are either the supertopraider or the weagle, although i have yet to get a bigger fish to go this year.

good luck.
