| The Wisconsin Muskie Tour (WMT) season opens this weekend on Saturday, May 14th on Lake Monona. A second tournament will be held on Sunday, May 15th on Lakes Waubesa and Upper Mud. Each tournament will pay down 5 places and will pay $10,000.00 to the first place winners with a full field of 60 teams. There is still some spots open for the tournaments.
Although the Madison Chain of Lakes size limit is 45 inches, because we are using judge boats any muskie 34 inches or greater can be measured. The judge boats and contestants will be using cell phones for quicker responses and thus quicker releases. All muskies will be kept in landing nets until judge boats witness the measurement.
The WMT has added two new tournaments for the Southern Region and for the first time ever, the Southern Region of the WMT has 5 qualifying events. This will give the tournament anglers, who concentrate their tournament fishing in the southern part of Wisconsin, an even greater chance to qualify for the WMT's Invitational Championship.
With this years WMT's expansion, the total purse for the 2005 WMT season exceeds $700,000.00 in cash and prizes. Over the years the WMT has paid back over 100% in cash and prizes for the tournament circuit and this year will be no different!
Once again the WMT will be awarding TWO NEW RANGER BOATS at the Invitational Championship. One Ranger boat will go to the WMT's Invitational Champions and the second Ranger boat will be drawn from the 66 teams who qualified for the Invitational.
If you are interested in fishing one or both of the WMT's qualifying tournaments in the Madison area and would like more information, please email us at [email protected] or by calling (715)369-1394. You can also sign up for the tournament(s) the evening before each tournament. On Friday, May 13 from 5:00pm to 7:30pm registration for the WMT's Lake Monona tournament will be held at the Bourbon Street Grille at 6308 Metropolitan Lane in Monona. The Saturday, May 14th registration for the Lake Waubesa/Upper Mud qualifier will start at 6:00pm to 7:30pm at the Park Pondarosa at 5100 Erling Street in McFarland.
The Madison Chain is a great body of water to fish for muskie and spring is one of the best times to be on the water. Join us this weekend for all of the fun while meeting new friends for life. We all hope to see you there!
Thanks,
Tom McInnis
