Edward Crossman-Muskies, Inc. International Muskie Symposium
MuskieFIRST - 5/8/2005
Phoenix, AZ. - Not since 1984 has there been a larger gathering of researchers, scientists, biologists and fisheries managers from the United States and Canada. The Esocid Technical Committee of the American Fisheries Society has put out a call for papers that will be presented on muskellunge related topics. This symposium entitled "Building for the Future" is being sponsored by Muskies, Inc. in cooperation with the American Fisheries Society and Gander Mtn. The purpose of this event is to build fishing opportunities for the next twenty years in the United States and Canada.
The symposium will bring together technical researchers, muskie managers and anglers from across the country to review current research projects (poster projects and oral presentations), management strategies and state/provincial regulations. There are over 30 technical presentations that will be made over the three-day event. Roundtable discussions will provide networking opportunities with individual DNR/MNR staff in order to discuss the current and future of muskie fishing. Today there are thirty-eight of the lower forty-eight states and three Canadian provinces with muskie stocking programs. As was quoted recently "Good science that is tied to the angler," is the theme that will be the criteria for symposium presentations. A special "Breakfast with an Angler" on Sunday, will be an opportunity to sit at a well-known angle's table for breakfast.
Special rates will be provided to outdoor writers with credentials. Outdoor writers may attend for the cost of meals on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday for $100.00 or they may attend the Sunday only breakfast for $10.00. There will be no registration fee for outdoor writers thus allowing them open access to any of the presentations, panel discussions and/or roundtables (except Sunday). There are no room accommodations. Writer's interested in room arrangements must make their own reservations.
