Location: north central wisconsin | Greetings,
I used to run two 31 series batteries in my boat, and I realized they were too heavy and a bit oversized for my needs. i went to 27 series two seasons ago, and they worked our great. I will be in need of new batteries at some point I am guessing in the next three months. I was wondering if you felt I could get away with two 24 series/size batteries(was looking at Interstate). I have a boat similar in size to a Tuffy Esox Magnum, and use a 74 lb. Minn Kota AP 24 volt. I use it extensivelly, often for long days. I typically have access to power to charge each night, but on occasion would require enough juice to get me through two days, or a day and a half. The weight savings would be substantial for me, and I was wondering if others use the 24 size/series in their 24 volt system with similar rigs. I am running Dekka batteries now, like em alot, but can no longer find them. A recomendation on battery brand other than optima that others have had good luck with would also be helpful. I really have not had bad luck with any, but would prefer to stay away from Fleet Farm and Northern brands as they were not the best performers in the past for me.
Thanks!!! | |

| I did a lot of research last year on batteries for my Tuffy and ended up buying a trojan deep cycle from Sportsmen's Warehouse and I have not had the battery let me down yet. I believe I bought a 225 which had the most CCA's and Reserve capacity for about $100. I was getting tired of buying the Farm and Fleet Batteries that lasted 2 years and left me with no power to my trolling motor at the end of the day. The Optimas are supposed to be super batteries but I have heard that their customer service is not the best. If you have a problem with the battery the warranty will only be valid at the dealer where you purchased it. Batteries are a hot topic on many sites with many opinions expressed. Just thought I would throw my 2 cents in.
One of the best site's I have found for questions about batteries and electronics is www.bassboatcentral.com. Check it out, you may find it very helpful.
Good Luck

| I've been buying my batteries at Remy in Milwaukee for years. Last set on my then new 2002 Lund Esox Angler SS are still going strong. Size 27's I believe. Last weekend, used them all day in an eye tourney on Green Bay to troll harnesses. Had the speed between 5 and 7 for almost 8 hours, and I still had over half a charge in them. ANd they were relatively inexpensive, too. About $60 each. | |
