There are many Taxidermists or as I prefer to call them ( Artists ) who do quality Reproduction Mounts perhaps the top two are
Ron Lax & Joe Fittante, both do fine work but with different styles, I prefer Joe Fittante for his just out of the water wet look and painting details but others will prefer Ron Lax you really need to see them side by side to determine which style you prefer.
The best way to do this would be to attend some of the major Muskie shows during the hard water season

Lax does nice work, but all of my fish get done by Joe Fittante. He does an excellent job recreating the fish exactly as you saw it. None better in my book! |

Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | Dan Johnson down here in SE Wisconsin ranks right up there with the "big 2", of Lax and Fittante. He does amazing work. Some of Lax's fish don't look real and some of Fittante's fish have a little too much gold in the back and it's not layered right...from some of the fish I've seen. Most of thier repros have been awsome though. |

Location: minocqua, wi. | i'd choose Joe Fittante again. outstanding!! .... the others mentioned are surely good, but seem to look the same. i've seen most of them on display in shops, restaurants etc... Joe will do "your" fish and not just a musky. |

| saw lax in medina, thought his fish were all very similar with alot of orange in them. I saw an article in musky hunter this winter on both fitante and lax, they showed lax doing a fish for steve heitings son holding the fish didn't see any oarnge yet the majority of the repro was orange. Other than that his fish looked nice just all very similar with different poses. |

Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | I just got my sons fish done this year. Outstanding job done by Joe.
I liked Ron's art work on Lax's reproductions. His son Rick took over a few years ago and is now the man. Most of the fish are some what the same. Joe is better at the paint jobs for the lakes, the fish have been caught out of.
In a few years Rick could be the man. Graphites are all about the artists. Who can make them life like.
Dan Johnson down here in SE Wisconsin is very good also. He did some outstanding work on last years muskies that I had a chance to see. He is for sure in the top 3.
So far Joe is the man for me.
Rick Lax is doing my 52 1/2 x 22 because af a Muskies Inc 50% off deal. I will have to see what he can do for me, maybe he might get some more buisness from my clients if its better than Joe's work.
I would check out all 3 and see what you like. All of them have web sites. |

| I have been impressed with Rick Lax work. As of writing this, 2006, I would say that Rick is now as good as his father was, and will only continue the Lax tradition (I think 2nd generation now makes it that) of exellence.
The fish he made for me was very large, and the detail is exelent. |
