I'm looking to see what people are using for throwing Magnum Bulldogs, Twinfins, and heavy crankbaits.
I currently own St. Croix, Loomis and Thorne Bros. Diamondback rods.

I'm not looking for a custom, I am just curious to see what works best. I'm thinking I want a rod in the 7'6 range.
I've been using my St. Croix Premier 7'2 MHF for the job but it makes me nervous. It's a little light for the job.
How about the Fig Rigs?

Thanks.

Go with the 7'6" H Avid. By far the best rod I've used. It makes throwing heavy stuff easy.

For the heavy stuff I use a 6'9" St Croix Avid.
It'll launch the heavy stuff with ease and flexes nicely during the fight.
My favorite for larger gliders.

I have an Xheavy 8FT All Star, that I use for the heavy baits.

It cast them a mile when you need it and
handles large baits with ease.

FigRig Extreme, 8' MH is one of the few mh rods built with enough backbone to handle big baits with ease! At 90.oo you can`t go wrong and a better guarentee then many others mentioned! Fact just got a 3rd for this season!

I'm with Tommie on this one, take a look at the Lamiglas 7'6 Heavy. Makes a great heavy jerkbaits/bulldawg rod. Lamiglas isnt that popular with Muskie fisherman, and I really cant tell why that is. The cost is a bit high, but the rods do perform, and their customer service is great when you do have problems.

Without a doubt I would go with the Thornes Diamondback 7'6" "Jerkbait" known as the Musky Nut edition rod. The best musky rod made in my book.

The 7'6" Heavy St. Croix would tremble with fear next to this bad boy!!!

While not the lightest rods in my boat, Lamiglas are the strongest rods available..

I have the 6'10" HR special and an 8'6" figure 8 special.. I'm not crazy about the cork on either rod. I have been toying around with idea of redoing the grips just like the St. Croix Avid series (best in the business) as far as I'm concerned.. Too bad you gotta remove all the guides to do it!

Thanks for the recommendations! The St. Croix 7-6 HVY was in the lead but the Lamiglas came on strong the last couple of posts.
Tonight I went out looking for some rods to shake. Couldn't lay my hands on a 7-6 HVY Avid. The 7-6 MH Avid, which I did look at is definitely too light. I also looked at a 915, 7-7 MH Loomis rated 1-4 oz. Nice rod! I'm going to Thorne Bros. tomorrow to check out the St. Croix Avid and Fig Rigs. If I do that, I'm afraid I'll end up ordering another Diamondback! Was hoping to keep price under $200. The Fig Rigs and Lamiglas come in right around $160. Maybe Thorne Bros. carries them too.

Anyway, thanks again for all of the help, I appreciate it!

I'm voting for the Fig Rigs 7'6" heavy/medium Tooth-Tamer. The rod itself is not "heavy" but will certainly handle the big baits. I don't want to sound confrontational on this but shaking a rod in the store tells me very little about how it will perform on the water. Lifetime guarantee on the Fig Rigs and priced right.

Pete,

"Shaking some rods" was just figure of speech. If I thought shaking a rod could tell me exactly how it will perform I wouldn't have had to come to this site and ask for advice. I am going to be looking at the Fig Rig's today as well as the St. Croix Avid and possibly even a TB Diamondback. Thanks for the advice.

P.S. How many times have you seen people shaking rods in tackle shops? Just about everytime I go in there is always some guy whipping a rod back and forth and then nodding knowingly.... SOME people can tell! (LOL)

Spallgard, I gotcha. No offense intended. Good luck with your search and let us know what you wind up with.

I've been working at Gander since I was 15 years old and picking up a rod at the store will tell you weight, action and comfort. It has been an important part in helping me outfit people. However, nothing will make you appreciate a Fig rig more than hour 13 of a hard day of fishing.

Justin,

I just came home with a Fig Rig Toothy 7-6 HVY. It's very light and has good backbone. For the price and warranty it's worth a try.

Thanks again to all who reponded with recommendations!
