i know that a lot of people only use suckers in the fall and late season for out beloved ski, but would it hurt to use one this time of year?? or should i just strictly fish lures.

There's only one good time to use suckers for muskies, when you're fishing for them. Early in spring small (6") ones are good to cast on a jig, and througout the summer I rig 'em on a quickstrike and drag them behind on a baitclicker while casting. Catch nearly as many fish in the sucker as on artificials.

redtail chubs on a jighead can be a very good spring bait also! Bonus is that they will catch almost everything that swims in the springtime!

If you can, use them. You will probably catch more fish. I'd use them all year if I could keep them alive.

I would not fish without them in the Spring.

Last year we boated 10 muskies on the opener. 5 were on suckers and 5 were casting. Biggest was 40 1/2 and smallest was 30 1/2.

Small 9 to 12-inch suckers with a quick-strike.

Casting brings them in and the meat catches the ones that don't hit the baits. Gliders and twitch baits are my casting choices.

I hope this helps some.

I second what Mike says. Use them in the spring, and you won't be disappointed.

Joe/Mike,
Do the local baitshops near Pewaukee and Okauchee carry suckers in the Spring? I've never tried to buy them at that time of year.
I've yet to boat a fish on a sucker, but I'll keep trying.

Hey Tom!
There are a few places that carry them. Smokeys on Pewaukee, and Culvers (I think that's the name) in Pewaukee. Around Okauchee it was Musky Mikes, but not sure what is going on there. I think they moved the store to the Citgo on the way to the launch, so you should be able to get suckers there as well. Shoot me a line if you need some info on sucker fishing.
Are you going to be out on Opening Day?

as long as you can keep them alive (water temp. guide) and from being a pain in the arse, i say use them. now we could all get into the old "what constitutes an illegal trolling" debate.

Joel,
I'm tentatively planning on hitting Pewaukee on Opening Day since I can't imagine getting to the launch ramp at Okauchee or Oconomowoc by 3:00 AM in order to get a parking spot. Where are you gonna be for the opener?
