I have a wedding to attend on Minnetonka in mid-July this summer. Much to my wife's opposition, I would like to get the line wet for a 1/2 day before the event. A few quesionts: (1) How would one characterize this body of water for muskie; (2) What sections of the lake are most productive; (3) What type of structure is good this time of year; (4) recommended baits; (5) any good guides to suggest?

As always, I would appreciate any advice you could provide. Thanks in advance for your help.

I would recommend Mr. Musky Treats a.k.a. Shawn Kellett he knows the lake well. It's one heck of a fishery but can be a pain in the ass with the partiers and cabin cruisers.

Its one weedy lake fished the Pmtt there last year.It is a good fisherie lts muskie population is healthy, the lake has milfoil so its one big weed bed. Does receive alot of boat traffic something I was not use to,(Fish LOTW).hiring a guide for half day would probable be a good investment and that is a lake Shawn K. fishes.

Mid july on tonka???/,,,think of the indy 500,,,if its 0 mph wind,,,you still get rocked by three footers all day,,Some of the richest people in Minnesota live on tonka and their boats reflect that,,also their lawyers do to because they do what they want,,,Its fun taking people to tonka for the first time because they sometimes just watch in amazement waiting for a head on crash to happen they dont understand that this is standard,,,Theres so many "floaters" milfoil that gets tore up by the speedboats and jetskis that its sometimes impossible to work a surface lure without a weed collecting on most casts,,Surface lures with two props work good because the first prop will grab the weed and the second prop will still spin so you dont totally waste the cast,,,cabbage grows out to about 6-7ft then the milfoil takes over out to about 15-17 depending on what bay your on,,can be super shallow or on deep edge,,best to run and gun till you figure it out,,,Dont drink too much at the bachelors party and rececption because you want to get on the lake by 5:30am or no later then 7am or you may not find a spot to park,,most guys pull off by 11 or noon before they let the duel 225 hp loonies out,,Weekdays are much better but mid july is the worse on tonka,,This is the lake that a couple years ago when a guy drowned the boaters wouldnt get out of the way so they could search for the body,,Hit the mall of America during midday,,evenings are bad too and then throw in boozers with big boats,,hope for an overcast
