It is that time of year, going through inventory and it time to stock up on some terminal tackle. I need to stock up on 3/0, 4/0 hooks. Was wondering what is brands your prefer and why, Mustad, Eagle Claw, VMC or any other brands. Also what is your preference on the 4X or regular wire hooks. Really liked owner hooks that I tried last year but cannot find them.

Thanks

Hey Troy, I use VMC and Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp as replacement hooks. The VMCs are the strongest hooks I have found and on some baits I like that characteristic. I use the Eagle Claws on lures where I worry more about the hooking percentage of the stock hooks. I upsize and upgrade the split rings and hooks on many of my lures.

I'll 2nd the 774 Eagle Claw. It's a 4x hook with much thinner wire than the VMC's.Nice wide gap and sharpen well. Steve

Thanks Steve

they are a little spendy, but they are dangerously sharp I will be order some, won't the be to sharp for you to use, or are you buy them for matt, because the last I saw his flat file is next a bull dawg in a channel on Eagle.

Im with Steve on this one, owner hooks are wicked, only downside is they if you try to sharpen them you will wreck them. That being said no need to, they come incredibly sharp and I havent had one dull too bad yet even after several fish. Pricy but well worth it.

I run 2/0 and 3/0 Mustad Round Bends on large bodied lures or where lure "action" is at a premium. All the rest of my baits get Eagle Claw 774's in various sizes.
