The longest with a successful completion (the fish ate!) probably in the same range as Tomy, 20-30. I have eighted fish much longer than that without them eating though. Many times I would swear I was going to give up after 15-20 eights when the fish would charge the bait again. Man I wish I knew what went on in their little pea sized minds!!

"Man I wish I knew what went on in their little pea sized minds!!" answer: I wonder just how much longer I can F with this guy before he gives up....

I think the longest for me before hook up was about 15-20 at least..could have been more

I have never had a fish go on an 8; soooo what I would like to know is, if you have a follow that seems initially hot and turns away at the last second (good visibility water; 6-10 feet) and heads away from the boat, how long to you keep up w/ the 8?

Mr Pike, what the longest we've done it and ended up catching it? or just what's your longest for the hell of it?

just looking at Nov 2004,i hooked 2 fish boatside after about 2 minutes of fig 8ing..so, i'm guessing 70 times around? maybe 80?

my buddy got a strike boat side after a follow from fig 8ing, for real, 4 minutes. probably 100 times around?

it's different on each lake. cant do that on all lakes, in all situations. every place is different.

either one, just whats the longest youve kept a fish interested, hanging around. ive never had to go very long, either ive gotten them on 10-20 turns max, spooked them, or they just lost interest and swam away, in which ive tried throwing back several times. ive never had any success on a throw back.

Lake of the Woods 1996....................... My boat partner had a fish that followed the boat and figure 8's for an EASY 200-300 yards. This went on for a good 10-15 minutes as we were drifting along, figure 8 this that....hell I changed baits a good 6 times, you name it and she chased it, but would not open her mouth and eat. The fish was in the mid 40's and resides in Stevens Bay, go look her up!!

I have caught several fish that did exactly what you described. I believe these fish that turn away hard are still very catchable. I will continue my 8 for about 2- 3 minutes. The fish seem to look for a different angle to attack the bait. When these fish come back, attack is what they do. It really scares the #### out of you when they come back from under the boat.

Must be something with Steven's Bay on LOTW. I don't know how many times I went around in the 8, but all I know is my back was sore when I was done. Funny thing was I cast back out and here he came again. Never did catch him.

We nad a fish in northern WI follow us as we drifted all the way across the lake. It mostly chased our sucker but would chase some of the baits we put down as well. Never got her to bite. It was only a 40+/-. It became a joke after a while, she wouldn't bite or spook.

The first fish I caught on a figure 8 was the longest figure 8 I've ever done .
It lasted about 2-3 minutes ( seemed like forever )
Every time I was about to quit , either my partner or I would see her flash under my bait so I would keep going .
I was starting to pull my bait up out of the water and she "NAILED" it .
I just about S#&% my pants .
How many 8's did I make , I don't know , but what a rush when it happaned .
She was small 37-38" but a rush just the same .
