| Just finished a long distance phone discussion on the right way to net a Musky. I'm not going to get into the specifics of that discussion, but I would like your comments on the right way.

I know the fish can go nuts at the boat, and there are times when you net them other ways, but how do you net a musky any other way when you are bringing the fish to the boat? How do you get behind the fish as it nears the boat??? That seems really messed up. |

Lead the fish, headfirst, into the net at the first possible opportunity. Leave the net bag in the water with the fish in the net while you unhook it. Get cameras ready before removing fish from the net. Lift the fish from the net, take a quick picture and release! |

| Head first, net the first opportunity, and keep the net and musky in the water while you remove hooks. Get a water release picture only of smaller fish, or quickly grab larger fish and hold them horizontally for a photo.  |

Location: Sheboygan Falls, WI | Head first. Hold the bottom of the bag of the net back so it does not get in the way when netting. Release it as you scoop up. Do not remove from the water, but work with the fish while in the net over the side of the boat. Has worked for me and I have not knocked any off for anyone else. Oh I take that back, one rainbow on Lake Michigan about 15 years ago.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Head first is how I've always put them in the bag. Now that I have a self deploying Frabill, I can handle the net alot easier and net them by myself. For years, I hand landed everything under 48" or so when alone or when I felt confident. I'm getting older, so the net becomes ALOT better option these days. |
