Dick Moore (Moores Lures) has the starflash skirts in musky sizes. I use 2 skirts per bait and it runs about 2.50 per bait. Pricey but they look sweet in the water.

| Well usually winter is the only time that I try not to spend money on fishing stuff, but lately I have been building a couple lures like the wood swimbaits they use out in California for the big bass. I also got an airbrush so I can paint a little better and I have been having some fun repainting some old beat up baits. Here are two of the baits I just finished up making. The first one is a 9" rainbow trout (theres a few catchable trout program lakes around here that "might"  have some muskies in) and the second one is a 9.5" bass pattern bait.

| Thanks for the compliments  . Yea I carved/filed the bodies out of basswood. Then formed the fins and tail out of lexan, and anchored them into the body. Then a little primer and a few minutes with the airbrush and they were done. |

I pour and paint my own heads, they are the 1 1/8 oz. bullet heads from DO-IT molds. With .062 wire they are next to indestructable. Even with the expensive kirts, I can still make them for about 4.50.

Oh yes, your 3 baits are impressive.
The other baits are too. I'm not sure I'm man enough to handle a crankbait over 12". But, I've been thinking about making one, as well as, a swim bait. I wish I had the talent shown here.
Oh well, I'm almost finished building a couple of lure boxes with slide in/out compartments. Compartment idea was from Dunwright's tackle box.

| I've got a bunch of Castor bodies ready to go, now I just need a place to paint.
That might be happening soon, because I managed to custom paint 2 dozen Rapalas for fishin' The Mississippi River today by keeping the paint warm and by having a heater blowing on lures between coats. Tomorrow I'm going to try some Castors.
Watch for some Pink Beaver creations by this weekend.
Since pink has been a hot topic, I've primed a dozen blanks and will attack them tomorrow.
Watch buy/sell/swap for finished products.

I twist my own forms, the .062 wire is from Stamina and I use a round nose pliers. Tough to twist at first, but once you figure it out it is pretty easy.

Those are some of the most awesome looking baits I've seen. I really like the fact that they are hanmade, and meant to be chewed on.
I know everybody who makes one, and takes hours tinkering, and painting would love nothing more than to have a mangled piec of bait after a monster mashes it!

| I started making lures this winter and this is my first lure that I designed. It's a 7 inch glider that weighs about 3 ounces. I'm working on getting more of a roll to the lure...right now I can get it to dart in every direction; it just doesn't have a really good belly roll. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but if i place a little more weight towards the upper portion of the lure (Not towards the front...just up higher), shouldn't it help to make it roll more? Right now the weight is pretty low in the bait so it is something I am going to experiment with. BTW...love all the other baits, I love seeing all the other homemade lures everybody else is making. Keep postin 'em!

| Gordy, yes by placing weight higher up the bait you gain more roll and makes a good alternative to the usual side to side action many lures offer, some great paint jobs but I believe action is more important than finish.

| Be careful adding weight to the top as this can make your bait lose action too! Alot of times you can switch wood material and have a whole different bait.
You can also vary the thickness of your bait to create more roll too!
