My dad and I are planning on taking a trip to Lake Kinkaid or Cave Run over my spring break. I just need to do a little research before we take off just want some of your opinions. What lake do you think would give us the best chance at fish around March 15 and what lures and presentations would be most successful. Thanks for the help.

Not that familiar with Cave Run so can't comment one way or the other. But I did want you to know that there is a muskie tournament at Kinkaid March 19-20 so you will probably see a few guys doing some pre fishing there.

Can be a great time on the cave. You may be a few days early, but if the water temps are up, the cave will be hot.

It all depends on the weather this time of the year. But the good news is that is doesen't take much of a temp. increase to get things going.
Dont be too afraid of the dirty water, I think they can find bait pretty well, considering the size of the fish this time of the year.
I would stick with baits with a bigger profile, either in size or sound, and use some hot colors.
Kinkaid is really a beautiful lake, and that time of the year, you'll proably see some turkeys feeding on the banks, and definately hear them if you stay late enough or get at it real early. I'm ahead of the game this year, my first fish usually comes in Feb. or March, so your timing would be OK down here.
I've never been to the Cave, It's too hard to drive past Kinkaid to go there, but you'll get some good advise from the guys here on the board.

Well, let's avoid the question of who is the 'best'. Of the guides I fished with in my sweet, short life, Tony Grant is tops in my book. However, no better way to start a war on the internet, so here's three websites that should get you guided:

www.kymuskie.com - Tony Grant, Scott Salchli, Charlie Thompson
www.battlethebeast.com - Gregg Thomas
www.crashslanding.com - Crash and Justin Mullins

hope to see you on the water this spring down yonder. m

I would recommend Tony Grant or Gregg Thomas for the cave. Just my opinion, no wars here.

bolth lakes are Great.
I cannot coment much about the cave i have only fished there a hand full of times.
I have Fished Kinkaid a ton . the time you ar talking abour Mid March can be Great. On thing is the water clarity lots of rain=mud. You can get clear water by the dam and water treatment aera. another factor is water levels Kinkaid will stay for the most part consistent the Cave can rise 20+ feet. LURES: to use Kinkaid not in order 10" jakes, Jointed Belivers 8", G-Ma's 9", Joint depth Raiders, #9 llungenTales ( or large blade buck tail ) Jerk baits Squirko's the new hell hound sould be good, Phantoms etc anything slow. COLORS : Bright if it looks to bright and ugly thats the one!! presentations: If the water is muddy you want to fish slow and stedy not alot of jukes keep it simple give the fish time to find your bait. also fish tight to the banks and look for creekchanells fish around bends etc..
Cave Guides Gregg Thomas, Tony Grant ,Crashes I have fished with Gregg and Tony always a great time.
Kinkaid Guides Chad Cain plus he has a couple guys guiding overflow. Andy Remetta tons of fun ("Get ya sum of dat"), and Rodney Lacrase.
Hope ya have a good trip

Two additional guide choices for Cave Run, Dave Christian and Chris Haley, very good, and stay located well.

last I heard, Mr. Christian gave up the guide business for racing cars and a factory job (ugh!); I think Mr. Haley guides Buckhorn, Kincaid, and Green River more than the Cave. m
