Depthraider or Believer

Subject: Depthraider or Believer

I mostly throw bucktails and topwaters. I was thinking about getting a Depthraider to work weeds as I read its good at backing out of the weeds because its so bouyant. I was also thinking about getting a countdown Depthraider to try for some mid-lake suspended fish. Then I read something about the Believer which implied it might be even better for backing out of the weeds and it also can run deep. Would it be just as effective and more economical to buy one Believer or should I get two Depthraiders? Why? Don't say I need all three or I'll just go back to throwing bucktails!

I think you should get the countdown for mid lake fish , as far as the weeds I am sure either will work effectively. I'd go with the Raider though, as I fell the lip design helps deflect weeds.

I throw both, the believer is better in the weeds by far.

I like both, but I would take the Depthraider over the Believer if I could only have one.

Both lures offer straight models and jointed models.

Strictly for the weeds I would use the straight model 8" Believer, for general purpose casting, surface crawling, and trolling I would use the 10" jointed Believer, and for deep cranking structure and weed edges I would use the straight model Depthraider.

Get both. The new 13" Beleiver looks good too, as a trolling bait. 'The Finlander' colour is hot (purple/wht/gold stripe), I hope that the new 14" Jake becomes available in that pattern. Like somebody mentioned, crawling a jnted Beleiver makes an awful wake and racket on top, sort of similar to a Hawg Wobbler. I've found many, many of the Beleivers I've bought the last 2 years to be really poorly build, lots of leakers though. They can be a little more speed sensitive on the top eye setting too (blow out easier). Two great baits, get both.

Believer. No contest in my opinion.

Depthraiders and Beleivers are both useful when working weeds, but in totally different ways. The DR is best for working the edges because it dives quicky and easily, rises when fouled, and can be ripped/freed easily. I guess the Believer set on the "deep" diving eye could also be used this way, but it's much more boyant and doesn't dive as well. Where the Believer really shines is setting it to the "shallow" eye and running over/thru weeds.
