Location: Breezy Point, MN | Hi everyone!
I have just received a major promotion in my career, and I have just accepted the Store Manager position of the brand new Gander Mountain store going up in Dayton, Ohio. I will be moving there around March 1st, and I frankly know very little about the musky fishing opportunities in that area, if there even are any. I know of the lakes in the eastern part of Ohio, such as Leesville and Salt Fork, but I am curious about the southwest part of the state. Any information anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks! |

Location: West Chester, OH | Welcome to OH, Tom.
1) Caesar Creek is OH's newest musky lake - stocking since 10/98. Literally minutes from suburban Dayton.
2) Clearfork Reservoir is probably OH's best approximation of an action lake. Located outside of Mansfield, less than 2 hours from Dayton.
)3 Brookville Lake in southeast IN, roughly 90 minutes from Dayton. Stocked forever. Lots of pressure on the lake, but by almost all accounts, nobody's fishing for musky. |

| Welcome to Dayton. Ive seen the building Gander Mountain will be at. Just off I70 before rt 201. Cinny is right about the lake here very few to speak about . Ive lived here all my life and I would and Cowan Lake to alot of musky in there but its a no wake lake meaning you can have a big motor on your boat but you have to idle or use a 9.9 horse power or less or a trolling motor. Its about a hours drive from Dayton. Also if your interested in Pike fishing I have the state record for that in Ohio and know of alot of good lake to fish some private and not alot of fishing pressure.. Good Luck with your new job looking forward to seeing you there as I will be loading up for my first time trip to LOTW this Sept the 17th |

Location: Athens, Ohio | Alum Creek Reservoir just north of Columbus is stocked heavily, and you're not that far a drive from good ol' Cave Run near Morehead, Ky. Cowan Lake near Wilmington is stocked, for sure, but I think there are horsepower restrictions. Maybe send a PM to David_4, he's in your new area.
I'd think some of Mike Hulbert's hot lakes in Northern Indiana would be within your drive range, too, but I'd say Ceasar's Creek is your closest. It is a deep water lake with not a lot of muskie pressure, check in with some of the Ohio Huskie Muskie guys for some good tips.

Location: Breezy Point, MN | Thank you guys for all of the information you were kind enough to provide me! I will be leaving Pennsylvania by March 1st, and will be settled in sometime in early March in the Dayton area. Please feel free to stop in the new store for those of you who live close by, since I will personally make sure our musky tackle selection will be the best in Ohio! Talk to you soon!

Welcome to Dayton Ohio I am glad you got the job . We need some one like you in the area, with your wealth of muskie wisdom tou will be a great asset for the new store. Some of the muskie nuts in our corner of the state have had limeted talks about a muskie club and possibly a muskies inc. chapter.
Ceasers Creek lake may very well be a jewel in the rough. The state has been stocking it since 1998 with aproximately one fish per acre. The lake is 2830 acres with a max depth of 100 feet. Due to it being drawn down every winter weed growth is limited , most structure is wood with rocks mutiple points and a few sand flats. I do know of one fish to come out of the lake last summer that was documented at 26 pounds, no giant but not bad for only six years of stocking.
While you are at the Ohio show look up Elmer Heyob he is the muskie man at the ODNR you wont find anyone nicer or more knowledgable about buckeye muskies.
P.S. see you at the Ohio show |
