| There has been discussion about using digital cameras in muskie tournaments in place of judge boats. I know what my reaction was to this option but I'm curious as to what other tournament anglers think.
Basically, each boat would have a measuring board with a sticker to validate the date of the photo. The fish would be laid on the board and a photo taken as proof of the length.
What do you think??

1. All cameras would have to be provided by the tournament organizer.
2. A seal would have to be placed on all memory card slots to keep from tampering.
3. All measuring boards would also have to be provided by the tournament organizer.
If those conditions were met I would consider it. |

| The fish is still being taken out of the water, handled, measured, etc.
May as well have a judge boat. |

| it's really not any different than the "get somebody from the next boat to attest" types of multi-day, multi-lake "tournaments" that are currently going on.
mind you, i don't fish in those either and you do hear about allegations of funny business.
time to start checking livewells for laptops, not just pre-tourney caught fish... |

Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | I have fished the Eagle River National Championship before. It is a have another boat register type tourney. We also do the same thing for our Rhinelander Musky League. We have even discussed, for our league, using pictures so there is no extra time out of the water. The thing both of these events have in common is that they are mostly for fun. Yeah there are some bragging rights involved and pride, but nobody is going to get rich.
If it were for big money, I would probably shy away. Somehow, someway, someone would find a way to cheat it. Call it good old American Ingenuity.
If it's for cash, bring out the judge boats instead. |

| I don't know much about cameras. I do know I prefer to have a judge make the call while he's at my boat. If it cost a little to pay a guy to catch some rays I would rather pay the extra money in the tournament. I can imagine it has to be hard for a tournament to find guys like this. Thats why we should never judge a guy for taking some money for running a top notch tournament. |

| I've seen so many bad pictures with digital camera and can't imagine fishing for $$$'s and using a digital imagine to determine the length. If it's just for fun, who cares, but if its for $$$'s I could not put my money into it. It seems to be opening a door to many fraud possibilities while not helping the fish much as pointed out by BallCap. |

Location: Hastings, mn, 55033 | let me preface this by saying i am not looking to start trouble. i just get confused by the way sentiments change depending on the issue discussed. in previous threads on tournaments on this site and others, especially concerning the big SF tourney, anytime somebody mentioned that kind of $$ possibly causing a lapse in ethics they were jumped on and badgered. the majority of guys were telling them they didnt know what they were talking about, there has never been a case of someone cheating in a major musky tourney, that they were just looking to start trouble. that ethics, sportsmanship, camraderie and trust were at the highest levels. yet when something such as this digital camera deal is mentioned, most guys say they wouldnt be for it because of the possibilty someone would cheat. i just get confused as to how it can be both ways! |

| I like the idea. There is no question that it could be set up so people couldn't cheat. Generally, I've learned in life that anything "new" is often questioned for a variety of reasons: fear, ignorance, etc. Technology should be embraced as much as possible. Muskietreats post is right on. It can be done and done fairly.

Maybe we could get the "WRMA" to do the photo analysis, then we wouldn't need to hire judge boats.
