I was just wondering if any of you have used these at all while fishing? Have you ever possibly used them while musky fishing as well? Also, what is the best type to get? Is Aqua View better than the rest?

We want to get the best possible one out there, so tell us what you think.

Thanks,

BrettC

While i have never used one, i have spoken to a few guys who said there is a major problem with them. YOU SPEND ALOT OF YOUR TIME LOOKING AT THE DANG CAMERA AND NOT FISHING! I think this is vaild while you are fishing. Now if you are simply out trying to find structure and drops etc, i think it can be a good tool. As for the best quality...sorry i could not tell ya. Brett, I have tried to use my Aqua View several times while fishing. Let me tell you that I can't do it! I am only coordinated enough to do one or the other. The camera requires a lot of attention along with continiously raising and lowering the actual camera itself. This does not lend itself well to fishing as this task takes two hands, (for most of us anyway). It's actually difficult enough just running the trolling motor while watching the depth finder and the camera and monitor at the same time. The best way that I have found is for 1 person to fish and the another person run and watch the camera. My wife loves to run the camera. One thing that you will definitly find is that you will be looking instead of fishing. You will also see an awful lot of fish that do not bite![:(] [:(] I like my Aqua View pretty well and have owned it since the systems were extremely expensive. Just couldn't wait you know. I don't have a lot of info about the others. Where are you from? I would be more than happy to take you out in the spring to let you try mine before you buy.[]

Muskyone,

What exact model do you have from Aqua View? My Dad wants to get the best possible model, so I was wondering if you had any recommendations for the best model that Aqua View makes?

Thanks for the help,

Brett,
An underwater camera is a tool that you use to learn a specific piece of structure. You won't be able to fish while using it, but it will provide you with information you would not otherwise have at your disposal. Bottom type, weed type and condition, baitfish, irregularities in the weedline or bottom makeup, etc.
It is a tool not unlike your sonar that when used properly in conjunction with your electronics will help you to learn your spots better and make better decisions when that cold front hits, or the lake turns over.
I am partial to Marcum’s OVS line. I had an OVS 305 and an Aqua-View last year and much preferred the OVS. The main beef I had with the Aqua-View was the “On” switch would always get bumped in my dry storage and turn on so the battery was dead every time I wanted to use it. The OVS had a clearer picture I thought as well. I just sold both of those actually and got the new OVS 500.

Brett C,
Look at some local sporting good shops and ask if you can rent one for a day first.

A friend of mine rented one ( not sure of the model) for a day up in the Eagle River area just to look around.

It looks like it would be a great thing to have but I can't see how you would use it a lot.

I use my Aqua-Vu for the purpose of determining the type of baitfish present on a structure.Sometimes the emerald shiners are so schooled up on the surface, here on the Niagara River,it is hard to read the Gizzard Shad that are below them deep on the structure.Only once was I able to use the Aqua-Vu as a tool while fishing,I found a small school of Walleye tight to the bottom in a deep hole, while watch the fish through the camera,I worked a jig in different actions till I got their attention more and was able to get them to hit.Now looking at Muskies is another story, you see a big one and spend the rest of the day working that fish and it ends up being one that is not active, you waste the whole day. Then it is also to easy to get caught up in looking and not fishing at all! Also your field of view is not that far out,3 to 5 feet tops in clear water once you get down below 25 feet.
