I'm contemplating making some twitch baits for my own use and possibly for sale. What do you guys/gals look for in a good twitch bait? What sizes do you like to use? I think I prefer square lips to rounded for this application, and I like something fairly bouyant so I can work it over weeds, etc. Any thoughts?

Big Game Twitch baits are best, Jakes and Grandmas also twitch well. Twitching can get muskies moving when nothing else will!

Favorite twitch baits over the years have been.

Slammer Tackles 5-7 inchers.
6" Slow Tease from Hawgseekers (not twitch bait but you can twitch it)
6" Jakes
Big Game (similar to Crane)
Crane's of course.
10" Jakes
Shallow Invader's

I love good quality wood baits. Quality craftsmanship is an admirable skill.

Mark has a great list and I use all of them at different times.

The 5 and 7-inch Slammers are some of my best twitch baits in Spring.

Cranes work great and catch fish.

The squared lip Shallow Raider is also a great twitch bait.

The Husky Jerk also can be very good for picky muskies, its the hang time that gets them pissed off.

If the weeds are up the Crane bait will be the best.

Slammer Cranks come in sizes from 5" to 8" which all work well as twitchers. The last couple of years I have been using some of the smaller (5"-7") deep divers in shallow water situations as well.

Thanks guys. Looks like Cranes and Slammers are the preferred style.

I make some of my cranks and trolling lures and the square lip will give a harder wobble, round for deep divers. I like the 9 inch Grandma and the Super Shad Rap, but I think my Wallyweasel is going to be killer. The Wallydad is going to be the hottest thing since the Burmek-B1! Be ready for a lot of poor results with your lures. Some that you think will work won't do a thing. Angle of the lip and tow eye placement are the thing to get down. A slight change can make a big difference. Nothing like catching fish on what you make. Good luck, later.

Man that sucks. Now I'll have to throw out all my "worthless" lures.
