I love the way the 6" Grannie twitches cause the flat sides give off more flash... however the bait hangs with its nose down... so long pauses aren't as effective for me. Thus, the grannie is a fast twitchbait for me used on active fish.... and I only give it one thumbs up.

The Lil Ernie, however, is a great jerkbait. If you want it to hang, upsizing the hooks is usually all it takes. Its a more durable lure than the grannie too.... with good (horizontal) posture on the pause. I give it two thumbs up.

I love the 6" grandma deep diver for trolling. I think the lfat sides give it a vibration advantage. Like jolong said, if you have not twitched a small ernie you have not seen how amazing this bait can look in the water. You can keep it up top and work it around weeds, like a glide bait on speed.

KSauers..... I like the Straight Baby Depthraider too. I'll usually favor the Ernie over cleaner and deeper structures and grab the Baby Raider for heavier cover and thicker weeds because I find it easier to work the babyraider shallow.

Plus, in deeper water the larger profile of the Ernie offers an advantage over the Raider.

Jlong, I threw alot more crankbaits last yr, but most of them were shallow runners. What situations and depths do you use deeper running baits like the lil ernie?

I did extremely well on 4" to 6" cranks last year and the year before, pitching them on rock walls in Canada. The Baby DR and the Cisco Kid jointed will be my weapons of choice this year.
