Location: Breezy Point, MN | I got my New Year off to a good start today, catching and releasing a nice 43 incher on the Susquehanna River here in PA for my first fish of 2005. I have never landed a January musky before, even on tip-ups while ice fishing back in Wisconsin in the past. It was one of three muskies we boated today, and my good friend Ed caught a 36 incher and a 35.5 incher, plus I had one more nice one that I hooked up and lost on a boatside roll. Water temp was 35 degrees, and the air temp today was a balmy 60 degrees, although it was really windy, so you needed a good jacket. We also caught five walleyes up to 22 inches. It was a great day on the water!

Location: Des Moines IA | Congratulations on making us all very jealous. I foyu did work for Bucher . Why are they different now. I looked at the depthraiders at BPS the other day the body shape is different? Did Joe Sell the company or is this a better design? I prefer the old rounder raiders myself. |

Location: Breezy Point, MN | Hi!
I can't really comment on the new company, since it has changed hands twice since Joe sold it initially and I left, and I really don't know the new owners all that well. Joe is still involved with new product R & D, etc, and we stay in touch occasionally via email. I can tell you that I very much miss running that company. Not sure it has been the same since I left, and I put my heart and soul into that job for seven and a half years.
I can shed some light on the DR's though. The original molds of the DR's were probably repaired and refurbished do to their age and what they were made out of, leading to the slightly different "new" shape of the lures. However, I really do not think it will alter the action much. Depthraiders were my "go-to" crankbaits out here on the river this fall. They are still one hell of a lure!!

Location: Breezy Point, MN | Sorry to hear about the Artic Blast you all are having back in WI!!!!! Believe me, I lived for 37 years through those winters, so to have one year off isn't a bad deal! Honestly, it is really cool to be able to keep fishing! I plan (weather permitting) to fish right up to March, when the season closes here. If it makes all of you feel better (or worse), I have to give an Ice Fishing seminar tomorrow at my Gander store with no ice closer to us than two hours away! I have 65 people signed up, and I think I will surprise them and tell them it will be a muskies seminar instead!!!!! Hang in there guys, I know those WI/MN winters all too well, and it will get better.
Hey Keith! Let me know if you are going to the Columbus Show or not? Oh and thanks for the cheeseburger again, even though you missed me on a wide open square out pattern in the booth!

Location: Breezy Point, MN | Hi Steve!
It was real nice talking with you in Pittsburgh, and I truly wish you all the best with your efforts on the size limit issue. Please say hi to all of the gang there in Chicago! This is the first Tri-Esox show I have never been too since the inception of the event, so it is kind of a bummer for me not to be there. I have a lot of good friends in that city, and I miss the excitement of that show. At least I can get on the water though! Hope to see you in Columbus? Talk soon!
PS: If you ever want to have a "Pennsylvania Night" or something similar in the Muskies First Chat Room, I offer my services!
