Good cold weather sucker rod

Any suggestions for a good cold weather sucker rod that is fairly inexpensive? I really like my St. Croix 7'proglass rods but was looking for a back-up that is less expensive. I broke two graphite rods this year on hooksets with live bait in cold weather. On the same day. Bummer[:0]

Just got the new St. Croix catalog and a bumper sticker in the mail yesterday ( thanks Rob!)
and it shows that they have a Pro Glass Musky rod that would be great for sucker fishing.
Rod #GMC69H or #GMC70XH looks to fit your needs.

You also might want to call Brett at Throne Bros. a call. They make some great custom rods and I'm sure they could put one on a glass blank for you.

You might also what to ask around at one of the swap meets that are held after the Muskie expos this winter.

The Pro-Glass rods are very tough.I don't Sucker fish, but the 7'XHY can take snags on a tight drag at 3.0 mph in below freezeing weather. The Graphites use to blowup on me when the same snag were to happen under the brutal cold conditions. Capt. Larry

Matt,
Also consider the heavy power rods in the Classic Catfish Series. I used the CC66H with great results. I know these rods aren't going in the price range of what you're looking for, but you won't disappointed with the suggestions.

Bill, my pleasure to send the catalog. Need a rod or 3?[;)] []

I love my proglass for suckers, and have yet to break one. I was looking to see if there were cheaper alternatives. I think I payed something like 130.00$ for my proglass rods. They are awesome sucker rods.
