I know we all have had to explain this to our co-workers many times, but why do YOU fish for muskies?

Thrill of the hunt.

I've always said you don't "fish" for muskies; you "hunt" for muskies....

I like the brutal force that they hit with, I like the thrill of the fight, I like being able to skillfully trick the beast into eating something they "shouldn't" be eating, I like hearing the drag screaming, I like looking at the bend in the rod and the huge tug on the line. They're truely a beast, the barracuda/shark of freshwater fishing.

If I have to explain it, you wouldn't understand.

That's my standard answer.

I love their smell If I could get calogne that smelled like that, ladeez watch out!haha
It boggles me why something that pisses you off so much at times could be so addicting.
I have gone weeks without any action and then all of a sudden one day you catch 3 and it was all worth it.
They're my drugs!

I fish Muskies because if I fished bass and walleyes I'd be expected to catch some.

Actually, I'm not too sure why. If I ever was, it would probably not be as much fun.

Because it is the pinnacle of freshwater fishing. It is the best when you set the hook on a big slobbosaurus and the drag starts to scream. I guess it's all about adrenaline. I love the shakes you get after boating a monster.

The Adrenillen Rush of hunting the hunter. Similar to hunting fox and coyotes, but you can't treat an animal for a gun shot wound.

Because I am obsessive-compulsive and I am addicted to fishing for muskies since I caught my first one 26 years ago on the Chippewa Flowage. I have seen world record class fish in my travels and those visions haunt me!

I guess for the same reasons that I hunt trophy whitetails.
The thrill of the hunt, along with the excitement of just seeing one.
You don't have to have one in the net or on the ground for the day to be a success.
Of course one makes it to the grill, and the other doesn't.

It's good for my soul.

The hunt reminds me of my relationship to the majic and power of our natural world. I love the feeling of being totally in the groove, casting and doing 8's. I feel balanced, content. Seeing or hooking a fish is a bonus.

How could I explain it to you? I can't even explain it to myself. Probably has something to do with the absolute rush of adrenaline I get on each and every follow. The shakes I get when one is in the net, the way every topwater strike is forever etched in my mind. You just don't get that from perch, bluegills or even walleye!!

Plus I don't like to eat fish, how perfect a match is this????

I like the look on the "non-believers" faces when I tell'em... but I'm kind'a sick that way.

It's a NFOW day for me... I've been checking Leech Lake Resort opportunities all morning [grin]....

Because I've seen the "God of Muskies" and she inspires me. Actually because my best friend "Mike Hofmann" got me hooked by conning me to join a group of 5 friends going on a 1 week smallie & lake trout fly-in in beautiful western Ontario with "Al they say there are Muskies in there, they should be as good as northern pike." I was the "black sheep" the only one fishing for muskies. So I was always partnered with a bass or laker partner (Mike). "Holy Jesus" revealed herself to me and I haven't been sane about muskie fishing since. I still love northern pike fishing. But when muskie season is open, it's my passion. Believe it or not "Ranger" is worse than me for extreme. ( Although, I have slept on the ice on the Mississippi at -20 F to be there at sunrise (for the first light tip-up bite!)

Why do I fish muskies? Because, I wouldn't feel whole if I didn't.

Happy 2005!

Al

I am sure we all have the same feeling at times, you work your tail off all day and don't hit a fish. You have changed lures and fished every pattern you can think of. On the way home you feel like you have a downrigger cannonball in your gut, then the next day you are at it again. Why? Becouse when you feel that hevy headshake and have that fish thrashing at the boat it makes your legs shake and your voice go up two octaves! You know you are hooked when you catch a six pound bass and you feel like you waisted a cast. There is fishing and there is catching, this is fishing. Later

even though i have yet to boat a legal musky anywhere, the personal thrill of my uncle, on his second musky fishing trip ever landing a 35 and 41, good friend stephendawg and other friend double with a 38 and 39, a bonus 35 pike by stephendawg, and a missed opportunity on a 45 myself. to have friends and family have that good of a time together, it does not get better than that. todd
