| I just bought a boat!! Have not yet had a chance to use it. Yesterday when I was backing it in to the barn I snapped off the fin below the prop. It is an old like 1989 50 horse Johnson. Does anyone have any idea how much this will cost to fix, or if I really need to? Any help would be great.
Thank you,

| have any buddies with an alluminum welder? To have it professionally done it might be around a $100, but you really should have it fixed, your steering will be seriously messed up. | |

Location: Bagley,MN 56621 | how close to the housing did the skeg snap off?
If it's real close, welding will damage the housing and internal gears, you could be looking at a new lower unit, or tear down the lower unit first, then weld, then make sure the inside housing is it's original diameter.......hope I explained that right.
If it's only the lower few inches that broke off you probably dont need to do anything with that size HP engine, but welding would be an ok option. | |
