My friend is trying to sell me his Odyssey Pigs, one suspending and walk-the-dog. Has anyone tried these and would you recommend buying these?

How good are you with a glide bait? If you are experienced, you can get them to work pretty good. The floaters are easier than the suspenders. With that said, a buddy of mine has a small suspending crappie that works as good as any glide bait I have ever thrown. I will have it before the next season starts. I would not pay more than 5 bucks or so apiece for them and there are susually a few floating around the swap meets at the musky shows. They are built well and the finish holds up too. If you like to modify baits, you can do this to the floater:

I think the pig was a runaway for the worst bait....funny thing is.... we had action with it. The "original" that is. The suspender was a no go for me.

I will never buy a bait from someone who cannot come up with their own bait. The "Porkie", a great working bait from Fishing Pool in Europe was the original wooden "Pig", the original color on Magic Makers for Lake Webster that was copied when the Odyssey "magic maker" wanna-be came out. Now someone has gone as so low as to copy the bulldawg...guess who? I throw baits by people who I want to have my money, and Odyssey is not one of them.

i actually like my crappie suspendo pig, one of the first baits i ever bought.
it might be a sentimental thing since it was also the first lure i ever raised a muskie on - nice big Eagle Lk. fish on my first cast.
it's kept a place in my box because of that, and it's been as consistent as my other gliders.
work it slow and gentle...

the one thing i don't get: why is Gander Mtn selling them for like $17 ???
they're a fine bait, however, they are not 17 bucks fine.

offer your buddy $5 and play around with one.

I have a couple of the Pig lures and can make them dance pretty well. As far as copying lure styles, ther hasn't been a truly new lure in a VERY long time. Many lure companies copy a lure design that is already in place to a degree, and some shamelessly splash the bait almost exactly. It's perfectly legal to do so, just a tiny change in the bait get's it done.

Brand is CRITICAL and attaching 'quality' to the brand essential, because it's so easy to copy a lure.
