Is this what a muskie thinks?

"I see....a bucktail, well its black with a chart blade".

"If that was black with a chart-flame blade I would eat it".

Sponge eats a pay day if he sees one..right?

The closest option to reality is c) Sponge sees a Payday candy bar and eats it. Hopefully he removes the wrapping paper first!
I believe that the muskie reacts to a vibration, which happens to be in front of its nose at the right time.

Oh Jason, there is much more to it than your over simplified statement of musky behaviour. I have it on good faith (this must have come from Mr. Worrall) that musky are among some of the most intelligent creatures not only on our planet but probably the universe.

In your scenario this is probably what is really going on in the musky's highly evolved gray (or maybe green?) matter as the aforementioned lure is presented:
"I'm visualizing an inline spinnerbait-type enticement whose main body lacks distinct coloration and whose rotating metal section is a highly visible shade located in the higher end of the green spectrum.......it is highly unlikely this pathetic attempt at imitating natural nutritional enhancement will act as a stimulus at all....." This, of course, is immediately followed by the musky exclaiming, "Look at that glob of worms....whoooohooooo---lunch is served!!"

There you have it. Of course, SpongeMan is much more predictable and will ALWAYS go after the PayDay. Proving, alas, musky are much more intelligent than most of us that pursue them.

Hope You All Had a Merry Christmas,

Ask Worrall about the fish but as for me, the Pay Day is history if I have to cross the interstate blinfolded during rush hour![:0] [:sun:]

You say muskies are as dumb as a box of rocks...right.. Mr. Worrall.

Then you say they are not as smart as humans...right..Mr.Worrall

Then why would a muskie not eat a bucktail, but Sponge would cross an intersection blindfolded at rush hour for a pay day.

Why are they smarter then Sponge then?[]

Sponge can't smell the diesel smoke from the Big Truck about to squish him and the Payday, but the Musky smelled the Aqua Velvet Aftershave you put on the buctail when you touched it!

The two of you must realize that Mr. Sponge Bob has been a student for years in the ways of the Ninja. Crossing traffic
blindfolded is not a sign of stupidity, but rather the on going development of his training in the ways of the Far East!
One word of warning, don't borrow money to "The Eye Of The Tiger" Sponge, he might not make it accross the traffic alive. I said he was training, I didn't say he was learning!

Muskies don't school because they don't have to. They know what we are thinking. They torture us and make us buy all kinds of crap we may not use but one time just to chase them for days on end and not even see one. They like to see our bad sunburns and watch us all bundled up like winter gorillas freezing our bleeping butts off and chipping ice from out rods and reels at a "chance" at one of them. We goto shows and buy books, magazines talk about them and devote a great portion of our lives to chasing them. I'd say they are pretty dam smart.

Spongebob can't do that for me![:p]

They see that bucktail and think its moving too fast and they're too lazy to eat it, especially after having a breakfast of 5 crappies. Then, if its moving the right speed they think it moves so its food. If you put the right size rock on a hook and jigged it they might go after it. They don't have anything to worry about exept eating and reproductions...so why not eat a deer's tail? Thats just my opinion

It is amazing how Sponge has progressed in a few short months.[;)]

For the Muskies I see - 1) They have very good intel, they know I am the one throwing that lure. 2) They draw straws. 3) The short bus loser Muskie follows the bait to the boat. 4) Smiles and winks and heads in the opposite direction, laughing all they way to the bank.

I can tell the sound of a Pay Day wrapper at 100 meters in the dead of night...if the sound is hurried + loud the candy bar was most likely stolen from a boat partners snack sack + at that time I'll motor over, put a spotlight on the culprit + have him/her confess to what transpired; give a short commentary on the fine art of sharing then go back to taking a nap![:sun:]

HI,
Here is my view on things. a muskie is not as dumb as a box of rocks, but he does not know how to count to even one as we do. the truth is somewhere inbetween. the only way that a muskie can tell the difference between a fish and a lure is by learning.

ex. your dawg pees in the corner and you give it an angry look and then you kick it. the next time it does that and then sees that same look and your leg go back to kick it it runs away. it's called learned response.

that applies to muskie fishing in this way. a 20 year old fish gets caught on the same lure 3-4 times. after a while it connects things like rattling hooks and rattles with the thing that hurt it. so the nexttime it sees something like that it will follow it around because it is hungry but it is not willing to make that commitment.

my view of things, drew.

If a muskie could understand....why dont they hold still for photo's and smile.[;)]

We often ask them to do that?[;)]

If a Muskie could understand, the LAST thing it would do is eat a fairly substantial portion of a deer's fanny disassociated from the rest of the deer and attached to a noisy bunch of metal with something rotating like mad at the front.....ever.

They DO smile. That is all they can do, 'cept maybe sneer some![] [8)]
