| Hello, I am from Ohio and I am planning on making a couple trips to St Clair next year. I am going to purchase a ship to shore radio for my boat and was looking for some imput? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks Doug by the way do any of you fish in Ohio? I spend most of my time at Clear Fork and would be willing to help any of you out, if I can. |

Location: Kawarthas, Ontario | There are a variety of choices and it depends on what boat size you have, how much space you have and whether you want a base station type vs. a handheld. Bases offer greater reception/transmission properties vs. handhelds, but also rely on a much larger antenna. A good antenna is integral. Decent ones are usually 8 feet long and can be a pain when casting or working a fish around the boat. Handhelds on the other hand are small, portable and less expensive. I've been looking at the Uniden Atlantis with the rechargeable batteries and AC charger for about $140 CDN. Hope that helps some. |

| ANy of the main brands are good radio's. I have a Uniden Oceanus radio. I like it. But what really makes the radio, is the antennae. Get the best you can, like the Shakespeare Galaxy 8'. This antenna is about $100, but this thing really extends your range. |

Location: Mendota Heights, MN | I use the atlantis and really like it, though mostly have only used for weather info. I have to say though that the weather info got me off the lake in a hurry when i heard a tornado watch was on. Also, you can unscrew the antenna on the unit and connect a larger fixed mount antenna to increase your range and signal strength. Keep in mind though that hand helds such as the Atlantis only put out 5 watts. |

| I just purchased a new one.
I bought an ICOM for $159 at www.marinegeneral.com.
What I like about it (I listened to one in a local West Marine) is that it has the DSC feature, large display an extra jack for a another speaker. But the main reason besides the price is that it has an enhanced speaker that is in front of the radio and not on the underside.
Just something to keep in mind! |

Location: Alsip, Il | I have had good luck with a uniden and 8ft atena. I have called the resort from about 15 miles out on Lake of the Woods with good reception. Al |
