| OK, call me stupid if you will, but I got to thinking about this while fishing this fall...
I am in MN where only one line per angler is legal. In the fall, I feel that I can really do well on suckers, but the problem I have is that having only one line close to the boat does not allow me to cover as much water as I would like. And I get a little bored.
I was thinking, why not cast a lure with no hooks? This should help me draw fish to the boat that will then hopefully eat the sucker. I feel that would increase my odds with the suckers. Any idea if this would be considered legal? Am I technkically fishing if there are no hooks? Also, do you think I would be wasting my time with this tactic?
I plan to call the MN DNR on this, but wanted some other opinions in the meantime.
Thanks | |

| Good question Baldy.
I would say you are not fishing with hooks, but somehow think the DNR would have a different answer.
Something to the effect of, "yes, you are fishing, it's your own dumb fault for not using hooks."

| I believe your second sentance answers your question - only 1 line at a time. There really can't be any room for doubt by the DNR when looking for violators.
Even with your good intentions, two poles going at a time would bring a lot of flak from DNR and other anglers. No one would believe you were fishing w/o hooks unless they motor right up on you.
I wouldn't take the inevitable hassle that will come with having two active poles and one person in the boat. If you do get a DNR response, I'd be interested to hear what it is.

| I had the same thoughts as everything I have heard so far, but just thought I would ask. | |

| Good question, I had the same situation this summer in MN. I had this great idea I could troll one lure with hooks and troll the same lures with no hooks over the side with downriggers. I called my local conservation office and he (forgot his name) replied it would be illegal for me to do so. Dodger type applications are ok as long as they were attached to the same line being fished. Creative thinking, keep the ideas coming, let's find new ways to legal way to catch fish. capt bigfish | |
