Does using superline change your hookset? Do you not set the hook quite as hard or do you give it the full hammer even with superline? The reason I ask is I know when bass fishing all it takes is a light sweep with superline and if the hooks sharp you'll drive it home. But I know muskies are another creature and wanted all of your input.

Too much to think about.
When I went to super lines, I also went to rods with a little "give" in the tip.
When a muskie hits, I don't have time to think about how I'm going to set the hook. I just set the hooks as hard as I can....every time.

Full body hookset with a rod that gives some but never any slack line. I have heard of people who set the hook too hard, but then I question their hookset method and the sharpness of their hooks.

I've got to agree with Beaver....full hookset using a rod with a little faster tip.

Fast tip, quick set, don't need to hammer it that hard really as long as you have large enough and sharp and sturdy enough hooks. Hooks are most important in my humble experience.

I appreciate the opinions guys. I thought this would be an interesting topic that I don't recall seeing on here before. Anybody else want to throw in there .02?

I try to use a full hook set every time, and keep the line taught throughout battle. Reason Bass guys don't need to hit it as hard is due to the smaller hooks they use, and the fact that bass have a softer mouth. With most trebles on our baits being 3/0 or larger, that's a bunch of metal that has to cut through tougher lips.

Due to this, I pretty much change my hooks to eagle claws in the same sizes because they are not as thick as the trebles that are used. They hold up well and dig when set...

I use fast tips rods with TUFF line.

On crank baits I want to feel the body of the bait slip a bit so the hooks catch, so I might instinctively give cranks a little more leverage [as compared to bucktails].

Good question, I guess I never really thought about it... it's been hit, SET....
