Location: Springfield, IL and Vermilion Bay, ON | Does anyone tie their fluorocarbon leader material directly to the lure eye or split ring?
Or do you use a snap swivel? Wondering how well a knot would do as opposed to a snap swivel
in reducing visibility and perhaps improving action, if a loop knot is used.
Similar in manner to tying a crank bait directly to your line when walleye fishing.
Thanks for your responses...I look forward to learning something. |

Location: N.W. Ontario | Can't really answer that since I don't tie, I could never get a knot to hold consistantly with the 180 lb leaders I make, but I do crimp to a snap swivel and that works well. |

Location: Angola, IN | Tying a Flurocarbon leader directly to a lure will cause you to LOOSE action on your lure. Especially if you're using anything over 80# fluorocarbon. I made my own fluorocarbon leaders.....and I learned from the best. When I mean the best, they use the same leaders for a few years and catch dozens and dozens of fish over 30# every year. Shoot me an email and I'll send you a list of specialized leader making equipment that will give your lures the best action, with the lowest visibility possible. And they are pretty much bomb proof.

What about tying the flouro leader directly to the line? In my case, 80-100 Power Pro. Anybody?

Location: oswego, il | I tie or crimp to a stay-loc snap. I really like them becuase they have a backup plan if they open up. I never had one open up yet though. I can tie up to 80lb but anything over that and it gets hard to do. When I crimp, I do not crimp down on the ends of the crimp so it crushes into the line. That way if the line flexes at that point it has some forgiveness there. |

Location: champaign, illinois | Thanks Esox Chaser. Obviously I have not used flouro yet but have been considering it. I'm considering even harder now I will be seeing a guide this weekend at Kinkaid that uses the stuff and I'll be picking his brain for sure!
