I have an '04 2500 Crew Cab with this engine. 14mpg, around 10-12 with the boat behind. The mileage sucks, but it is one helluva truck. Wouldnt trade it for anything. Except maybe a DuraMax...

Baldy Thanks...

I think your 2500 has 410 gears in it. I'm kicking tires on a 1500 HD crew cab with the same motor but 371 gears. That should bring the tow mileage up to around 13/14 I would think..?

I'm driving a 2003 GMC 1500HD Crew Cab with the 6 liter v8. Getting 14mph hwy and 12 towing. I absolutely LOVE it. My biggest problem is the small (25 gallon) gas tank in relation to it's thirst! I have to stop every two hours when towing.

I think your assumption is fairly accurate...

Running 2004 Avalanche with 5.7, getting same towing miles 12mpg towing 620, no babying the motor. ran to New York 75-80 mph. Plenty motor, highway getting 17, 14-15 in city.

Good luck

Mark I am a car dealer so we get a lot of this stuff

compared to the 5.3 the 6.0 has a LOT more towing power the power also comes on earlier in the powerband making it more effective for this application

In my Denali I average 13.7 in daily all around use with the 6.0
In the Tahoes I drove prior I averaged around 14 / 14.5 with the 5.3

Thanks guys.

I called several people around town who I thought might be running the 6.0. They all said 12-13mpg no matter what your doing. The guys with the 5.3 were getting 15-18 on the highway and about 12-14 towing depending...

I'm currently running a 97 GMC with a 5.7 (350) I have 3:42 gears in it and am getting 16-18 when not towing and 13-13.8 when towing my Ranger 690. Sounds like no matter what I do I'm going to loose mpg. I checked Chevy's web site and the highest rear end ratio they offer is 3:73 which is in every truck except the 2500HD's which have 4:10's.

I was never one to give much thought to fuel mileage until it hit $1.75+ per gallon. Now we are at $2:10 average in WI and it is definately a consideration when thinking about making 100 mile trips to fish for a few hours.

I appreciate your feedback...

Best,
