| I have been using VMC 3/0 4x treble hooks on my gliders but am preparing to place another order. I am wondering if some of you guys have a "favorite" hook that you would suggest I consider instead.
Thanks ahead of time!

| VMC is my favorite, but I also like Eagle Claws for certain lures because of their hooking abilities. Depending on the lure, I use size 3, 4, and 5 hooks.
I also use 300 lb test Bucher split rings on most of my lures. Wolverine split rings are also good.
I also wonder if red hooks make a difference? Curious to find out one way or the other!

Location: Black Creek, WI | I use a variety of hooks. If I can get away with a 2/0 or 3/0 Round Bend Mustad... that's my preferred hook for cranks and glides. The short shank and wide gap are awesome, but the thin wire just makes them sticky sharp. Sure, they are vulnerable to straightening if you over power a fish.... but you can control that.
All other lures I try to put Eagle Claw 774's... especially bucktails.

Location: Davenport, IA | Eagle Claw lazer sharps are awesome. Mustad round bends are good too. I have used vmc 4x's a lot but they are just too thick and dont' hook and hold real well. |

Location: north central wisconsin | Since I went to E.C. 774's a few years ago, and now have a good supply of them for myself, i won't use another hook, unless a specific niche calls for it. The thing that I like about them is on the rivers I fish, I quite often bump alot of rocks, and need a hook that holds its' point through several encounters with them. They do. |

Location: NeverNever Lake | Lazer #374 They get hooked and stay hooked.......I perfer the thin wire for better penetration and ease of cutting. I also like a conical point vs a triangular knife edge. The beak on this hook resembles a circle hook somewhat. I have caught a fair share of fish on these just reeling in fast(no hookset) w/Bulldawgs |

Location: Watertown MN | The Extreme One showed me Owner hooks at tonka PMTT, they are like hyperdermic needles, these hooks are dangerously sharp, I will running them next year on baits. If the get near them they are hooked!
Good luck

| Troyz,
I run Owner hooks on all my salmon and steelhead plugs out here but haven't included them on my musky baits as I have yet to see anyone using them. They are a bit on the "thick" side which might concern some anglers but man are they ever sharp!

Location: Eagan, MN | Question to everyone who said something about a particular brand being sharp: don't you sharpen your hooks before you use them? I've never seen a hook that seemed sharp enough right out of the package. Or are you just referring to the hook's ability to keep it's sharpness with use? |

I'm still looking for some insight on this, are some of you guys really not sharpening new hooks? |

| Gamakatsu hooks do not need to be sharpened when the are new. They are awesome sharp!
Just wondering that you musky guys over there do not use them. Are not they strong enough for powerful muskies? |
