Location: Elkhart, IN | Anybody tried these out with any success yet? I picked one up today to give a shot at, though with high's only predicted in the 40's for this weekend I don't know if that'll be the time to try it out. |

Location: Contrarian Island | Yes, I have gone thru 2 silver blade/black haired ones...5 fish boated up to 40"...lots of other follows/strikes...2 things I do:
1. take your hook cutters and clip off all 3 trebles of the front hook as close as you can to the wire middle of the bait..then take a split ring and attach a new treble, I believe hanging one this way won't give fish the leverage of the other
2. put a bigger treble on the back
I also like to dress it with a 3" twister on the back treble... |

| Yes the Mepps Marabou is a very effective tail. Works well through weeds too. In addition to the other advice I would suggest trying to vary your retreive speed. Slowing it down and then giving a faster crank or two will kick the tail out and give the bait a sort of shimmy action. Don't know if the fish like it or not but it looks good and has worked for me. Also keep on the lookout for the new version which is a Marabou tail in the Musky Killer size with a single treble instead of the tandem. |

Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | Awesome bait, I have boated a bunch of muskies on them the last couple of years. Great marabou action that is enhanced because of the split ring design Mepps uses. The split ring also gives a bunch of versatility to tail and blade combinations.
Great advice from Pete on flaring these tails, they absolutely come alive in the water. I don't throw them a whole bunch in the fall, but the warm days you run into they might be worth giving a try.

| I have used them since last summer, several color patterns, and they rock. They have a great look in the water, and the blade thumps so you can feel the vibration constantly. They are small, so I like them early season and under tough conditions. They will sometimes get fish moving when nothing else will. At other times I use Eagle Tails, Bootails, and Big Kuhanas if I want something bigger, and Llungen Tails for specific color and action.

No, I don't. I use other tails if I want a deeper running bucktail. Sort of "right tool for the job" concept. Not sure how the sinker attached to the split ring would work. Give it a try and let us know what you think. |

| Yes as others have said it's a great bait! On LOTW's this summer I boated 32 fish in 14 days on the Marabou alone. I love the action of the Marabou tail but the bait does ride higher in the water. If I want to get down deeper, I detach the Marabou blade body(split ring) and attach a musky killer magnum or giant killer body. You still have the great action of the Marabou hair but can run deeper. That's the great thing about Mepps buck tails is their interchangeability. Ed |
