Why are Eagle Claw hooks so difficult to buy???? Not many retail stores carry them. When they do, its tough to get musky sizes and/or larger quantity packages. Why would a musky guy buy a 5 pack of hooks???? Thorne Brothers has been my supplier of Eagle Claws, however this year their supply has been minimal and my orders have been on backorder. Well, big fish season is upon us and I cannot wait any longer for my 3/0 and 4/0 774's. Anyone know of other retailers that sell Eagle Claw hooks in quantities of 25 or more? Please help if you can. Thanks.

Jason,
I don't know if this will help, but you may want to try and contact them directly.
http://www.eagleclaw.com/
Their site isn't really a retail outlet, bujt they may be able to guide you to one.
kent

but gotta warn ya, upon further inspection of their site, the 774s only have sizes listed from 1 to 2/0

Are you preferring these smaller sizes over the Mustad round bends now? Thoughts?

B&B Baits (Erieau, ON) sells them up to about a 6/0 in bulk (50 and 100 counts last time I stocked up). I'm not real sure if their website is still up, though. My favorite treble for all species. They ARE getting harder to find!

...just checked, their site's still up, but it's pretty weak hahaha. They'd have to mail you out a $2 catalogue (black and white jobby) and they refund the $2 on your fist order. I'm thinkin there's gonna be an easier way hahaha.

jlong, I get all of mine through their "company store".
I've been getting 5/0 Laser Sharps from them for a couple of years.
If you buy 10,000, you get a break in the price LOL!!!!

Jason,

I have bought hooks at this retailer before.....

http://search.ebay.com/Eagle-Claw-treble-hooks_W0QQsokeywordredirec...

Also, don't hesistate to contact the sellers, and ask them what they have. They usually have more than what they are selling. I would assume you could find what you are looking for.

Hmmm... no easy solution to this problem.

BrianF... I still use the Mustad Round Bends on many lures... however I also like to use heavier hooks in certain situations and have really enjoyed the performance of the Eagle Claw 774's. Its nice to have hook options and, unfortunately, I'm having difficulty keeping a healthy stash of Eagle Claw hooks in my box and on the workbench. I'll be certain to purchase larger quantities this time when I find them in stock somewhere.

Also, Thorne Bros. has been fantastic with service. Its not their fault that Eagle Claw can't supply them with enough product. Since their doesn't seem to be an abundance of other retailer's offering them..... I'll try to be patient.

I use the MN size 774's on most baits (5/0) and picked up 200 when they came in to Thorne's a couple of months ago. I'd offer you a pack or two, but these don't seem to be the size you're looking for? Let me know though. Can't possibly use all before ice up.

I'm going to invest in some smaller 774's for smaller baits though, since I like the performance of the larger version so much.

I've got the feeling the EC hooks the guys are seeing in some of these stores are the more readily available beaked-hook models vs. the straight point 774's? The 774's are very tough to find.

p.s. - Caught a really nice fish this week here in the metro on a bucktail I made w/ four single 7/0 tru-turn hooks. We should have a discussion about that sometime (that's for a different thread). Can't remember any fish ever coming off on those hooks, but alas they're awful tough to find as well.

Jason,

I've been an avid fan of the 774's for many years now and have nejoyed the same difficulties in obtaining them. Since Fudally started putting them on Reef hawgs many moons ago, I vowed to use not another hook. The best! You cannot get the big sizes from eagle claw and who knows why. My cousin got a bunch for himself and I, from Shortys Hooks and he has the contact information. Hopefully he sees this thread and can get you the contact. I have about 60 in each size(3/o and 4/o) and can spare a few if you need them immediately. I am still waiting for 5/o's though.

Jason Schillinger

Thanks everyone for offering to spare a few. I'm not in an emergency situation... but prefer to fill the gas tank at 1/4 rather than wait until I'm on fumes (ha ha).

I think if I fished in MN and Canada more I'd certainly be looking for some 5/0 as well... but for the average WI fish the 3/0 and 4/0 are just fine for me.

Hopefully Eagle Claw will realize there is a demand for their 774's and make them more readily available in the future. I'm also pumped to see the custom short shanks that Thorne Bros. is supposedly getting soon.

Here's the contact info where Jason and I got the hooks from. Harry at Shorty's 800-723-8508, He only sells in bulk with 200 being the minimum. He didn't have any 5/0.

I talked to the lady at the company store on Friday. She said anything in 4X stong was going to be pretty much limited to their ocean hooks, and the would be the silver ones and not bronze. The biggest ones in those series that I saw was 3/0. I picked up 500 of the 2X strong 374's, because the 4X's are no longer available.
Seems that there isn't much of a market, and they will only run big batches of big hooks for manufacturers in quantities of 5,000 minimum.

What about the lazor sharp eagle claws? Where can you find them? I have been using the 3/0 lazer sharps for live bait and have only missed 1 fish so far. They hook and hold.
