Location: New Baden IL | Hey guys, any body else been down to Kinkaid lately???
I fished this weekend after that big cold front, and only moved 5 fish,
Caught a 38" on a black/orange Bulldawg, and had 4 follows on bucktails, and other jerkbaits.
Water temps are really dropping quick, already down to 69 degrees, 3-4' visibility throught most of the lake.
Who else has been there?

| I was there the weekend before. Water temps were in the high 70's. There were fish on some of the main-lake structures (that's where I found the most shad). They were right in the weeds, especially inside turns in the weeds. But there were also fish way back in the coves, especially those with stumps and weed combination. I caught 3 fish trolling right along the weeds, and one on a Bulldawg back in the timber, but saw 4 others in that same little cove.

Location: Carbondale, IL | I was there last weekend and caught 3. 38" 40" and 42" (and a nice 19" bass) Most productive 5 hours I have ever had there. Two were caught trolling weed edges and one casting a grim reaper around stumps.
Anyone going up this weekend?

All the theories I had before about the muskie were broken in one outing.

Location: New Baden IL | I just got back after a weekend down there, work commitments kept me from fising Tuesday, but I wish I could have been there.
We didn't boat a fish, but had plenty of chances. I lost 3 fish on figure 8's, and had another one try to eat a Magic Maker. Other follows, mostly on bucktails. A good friend of mine had a tremendous day Sunday. He only saw 2 fish, but caught both of them, identical 46"!!!! One on a figure 8 no less. Another buddy of mine was there, and had a 4 fish day Monday, but nothing real big, 28, 31, 38, and 42".
Water is still real clear, with 5' visibility in some areas.
Morning temps of 65-66 degrees, and afternoon temps of 67.
It was overcast and rainy all weekend down there, thought we'd do better.

| Fished there Oct 2 & 3. Caught 2 in the morning - a 38" and a 32", one follow the rest of the day, then caught 2 in the last hour or so of daylight - a 32" and a 43". twitch bait, jerk baits, and a bucktail. So I would say, no defined pattern. Hope this helps. |

Location: New Baden IL | I was at Kinkaid Sunday and Monday. The rains didn't seem to cloud the water up at all.
Still had up to 5' visibility at the dam, and 3' in Johnson creek area.
62 Degrees in the morning up to 66 degrees in the PM
The bluebird skies didn't help the fishing out at all, but we still managed to see some fish.
Caught 1 38", Lost 2, had 2 Strikes and 5 Follows.
Same old buttered bread bucktails, and topwaters.

Location: Kinkaid Lake, IL | Fishing has been outstanding lately. They are on the move and action is all day long. Multiple fish days with fish reaching 22+ lbs and over 46 inches long. Not sure about this comming "weekend with the IMTT. Rained all day today. Yesterday I boated a super fat 42 on a bucktail. Rodney was not kidin' . Purple bucktails are working for me too. Johnson creek area is a little warmer (shallow water), but is very murky. 63.5 in most areas. Black and white crain baits and ss shads twitched over the weed edges have produced multiple fish a day for the last couple weeks. Hold on tight and have fun.

| I was there Oct. 3rd and 4th. Last two days of the bad weather. Got a 38 on the 3rd trolling a Believer. Did not get a rip on the 4th, could be becouse I had the Jinx in the boat! Catch the big one, Later |

| The last couple clear days have been great out on the water. I boated to under 30" yesterday. Big fish are on the prowl, but are missing the baits. Water clearity is 2-4 feet depending on location. Bait fish are all over johnson creek. Mid lake humps in the North. and some good green weeds on the main lake continue to hold BIG fish. I have also heard of 5 nice walleye caught trolling 6" big lip baits. LUCKY!!!!! "Word has it that buttermilk point was the hot spot." is what I was told.........There is a nasty storm hitting late tonight. I would expect this to be when the fast action will start to slow down. I will still be fishing untill the marina ramp freezes to ice and hopfully that does not happen all winter....... |

| we went out Thurs. Fri. Sat. just got back. We fished the main lake. Friday we had several follows. One fish 40+ violently attacked a fouled crank bait that was skipping on top of the water. I had 2 fish hit my hog wobbler and miss. Fish hitting figure eights and missing. Good fun but not one fish in the boat. Sat. was slower so we went up to Tompson's Neck and had a 45+ slooooowly come after a crank bait. This fish was ghost white and had a cut on its back. We also found a dead 32 incher on the main lake that looked like someone steped on while taking out the hooks. |

| 12/5
Cold rain in afternoon. Water temp by water treatment plant was 50F. Water clearity was 2.5 - 4.5 ft. Multiple muskie boats on the water. I don't think I have seen so many tuffys on kinkaid. Today was the last day for southern illinois shotgun season and they were in full action. It was like d-day around the shoreline. I even saw a couple dows swimming across the main lake area by buttermilk point. No one I talked to boated one. I witnessed a huge ski comming out of deep water and hitting a large school of white bass. The comotion caused the bass to start jumping like crazy. No sign of the musky after intitial explosion.
Does anyone have a pattern right now. What lures have been producing. Big Game and Jakes in shad and white have been alright for me? How about you..... |

Location: Kinkaid Lake, IL | lake is slow and fishing pressure has been high around the water treatment plant. I did not boat anything all day. Trolled bright 10" jakes and a huge believer in front of the marina. Marked alot of big fish just suspended in 35ft of water. 51.5 was the surface temp, but who knows how cold it is 10ft down?. I will be out all day sunday..........Anyone else fishing this weekend?

was planning on going down next monday after x-mas for a few days, this weekends cold snap could ice er over pretty good. Mid week looks real nice, but worried about the drive down on monday and finding too much ice to break.
Is there ice in the bays now?
what say the locals? I got an itch that needs scratchin. |

| I was on the water the 21st from first light until 1:30. Paul Ice had 41deg. water. Main lake was 44. The shad were moving to the north end, as were most of the other fish. I had one fish hooked and lost it. Hard to compete with several thousand shad. I don't think the ice will last long around the ramps. I won't try again till Tuesday or Wed., I get out a couple of times a week and there has been no pattern for the last couple of weeks exept they have not been hitting large bodied lures, 6 inch cranks or 8inch straight Believers are getting hit. Location: Northern IL | Greg, You are defiantly the die hard! But 40*+ temps right now would in deed feel like a heat wave. A couple of my sons and I may see ya there. Stop n say hey, 15' Lowe with a 25hp Suzuki towed by a small camper. Good luck! |

| Howdy GregM, see you are from Rice Lake. I go to Chetec every year with some guys the last week in Oct. and first week in Nov. crappie fishing and after a coupe of days of that I am bored out of my mind. Crappie have been "dinks" the last couple of years. I try to get a couple of days in fishing Muskies, but have not tried Rice Lake yet. It looks like a trollers dream. I would like some info, if you would. Tell me your best spots on Rice and I will tell you mine on Kinkaid(Yeh,right!). When you are down here look for the Piquad, 18ft. Sea Ark with down riggers and rods sticking out like a Porky Pine. It is 10 above right now. Later |

Location: Northern IL | My boys and I caught some, a 47" and a 43" were there biggest. Thursday we got into a good school of white bass, crappy, and walleye and landed 30-40, big fun on a nice warm day! Didn't see to many fisherman. Ice from the no wake area and up. |

| I was out Friday and did not get a rip. I was trying something different and it did not work. I spent most of my day from Buzzard north. No ice on the lake and water was fairly clear. If you get on the water let us know how you did. Sometimes we can learn more by not catching fish than we can catching them. Later |

| Did the 47 and 43 come from casting, trolling or jigging? I tried jigging Friday and busted out. |

Location: New Baden IL | We caught one fish Monday, jigging 25' down over much deeper water.
We trolled for the first hour, and only saw fish DEEEEEP, so we did what we needed to do to put a bait in their face.
Our first drift, about 15 minutes after we started, a fat 38" nailed my Fuzzy Duzzit. Those baits really throb down there.
Unfortunately it was the only bite we had that day, but I'll take a fattie like that any January fishing day!
Water temps were around 42-43 degrees throught the lake, with the Ava end really getting muddy. There is less than 1 foot of visibility up there.

Talked to a guy in a Red Lund Pro V 3 guys in the boat at the launch said they fished all day and nothing. They where also from chicago. Nice guys, said they started out casting but eyes froze so went to trolling.

| Water temp was 41 on main lake. SIU had a boat out for the transmiter study and saw two muskie boats out. I stuck to two main schools of shad today. On school was about a 1/4 acre and upwards of fifteen verticle. Huge school. There was about thirty seagulls plus my self fishing this shad mass. Everytime I would troll through I had to clear shad off every hook! Right before dawn I had two fish mess with my emotions. I was twiching a 103 shad crain bait over a small shallow school and a small 35"+- rolled my bait. I through out a purple tinsel bucktail with orange blade. A quick follow and a boat side swirl then she was off. The shad starting balling up near the surface so I thought....Hmmm top water in january. I put on a tallywaker and got a huge swirl about thirty feet out. After 11 days this month with no fish ........ Well, i go another day fishless becouse both seemed to not visit my beckman net today.
Oh Well....#*^@ MUSKIES |

| Thanks for the info, I have been trying to get on the water for the last two days. I got to the lake Monday and found that some prototype cranks I had made were gone, so I turned around and went looking for them. Sat the box they were in on the back deck while I took a seat out and left them there! I made new ones and will be out tomorrow. You the man dude, eleven days and you still chase them in the worst time of the year! Well, you are one day closer. Hope you get a monster for sticking with it. Later |
