| hey all,
i'm heading up to Lake Vermillion this weekend (west end - staying near Vermillion Dam).
any specific advice???
right now i'm planning on working rock humps and points with Jakes (of course...lol), gliders, and spinners - and emphasizing lures with chartreuse in them...am i on track?
i don't the water real well, if you're willing to give up any west end spots please send me a PM - i'll be sure to put all those 50 inchers back in good shape!

I was out on that water for a couple days. The system has soooo much beautiful water! Reefs, islands with long rock bars, weeds, it's all there. I don't think this is a tough lake to fish as far as identifying good water; it's just moody about giving up fish many times. Sounds to me like you are on track for sure. |

VDL this weekend with Bob Mehsikomer and the Simply Fishing crew. Kind of a
fall fishing school of sorts. I think they will have a few boats out trolling Jakes.
I know Bob and Rich don't like to troll, so they will be casting. You should see a
flight of boats coming out of VDL about 8-8:30 in the morning.
I saw in a previous post about the "Classic" that you have a friend with a cabin
by Bob Benson's in the old resort. Any thing Bob gives up is well worth listening to.
Sounds like it is going to be a post COLD front weekend, you will have some frost
and/or ice on the boat in the mornings -- Now that's mUSKIE fishing! Great for early
trolling and then once things warm up, get out and cast.

i imagine we'll be doing some trolling on those cold mornings too.
my main concern is that saturday looks like it might be another one of those 25mph wind days...i was hoping those were all used up during the big tourney last week! any suggestions on where to go if we're blown off by big waves?

High winds are not a major concern in the area of the lake you want to fish. There are lots of places a guy can fish within a short rough boat ride of the Dam. 
The Oak, Birch and Hinsdale narrows can offer you shelter if the winds are bad. I have caught fish in all those areas this time of year. It can also depend on the direction of those high winds, you may not need to travel far at all to fish.
The Freak and I have spent many hours on the Big V in some of the worst weather in recent memory and we were still able to get on some fish.
There are some good trolling runs within a mile or 2 of the resort. My theroy on fall fishing on the Big V is, "Hope for the best, but expect the worst".

Location: minneapolis | Ouch ! 56 degree water temp and 4 footers ? Sounds like a long ride for a short day. Did you get any decent casts in the water? Hopefully the weather will settle down by mid week up at cass for the outing. |

| Hi john Petruska here i'm a guide on lake vermilion. Looks the wind and cold will be with us up here until wednesday. I was out on saturday with two clients John and Steve. We fished the east end of vermilion mainly up by the trout lake portage area. We boated a 43 inch musky on a rock pile. congrats Steve on that nice musky. | yes, it was pretty rough at times. when the winds would pick up, the open areas would really start rolling - white caps on big rollers.
plenty of places to "cower" on the west end where i was - spent friday and saturday mostly in the narrows and didn't see anything. the weather meant not getting out on the humps that i wanted to fish near the deep water areas.
sunday morning we hooked but lost a nice mid 40s as well as a big upper 40s fish - it was noticeably "better" weather sunday with a bit more warmth, muggy, and occasional sprinkles as a relief from the high pressure cold front of the two days before. |
