Location: north central wisconsin |
Just returned from a week on Eagle Lake and was hit with some strong weather that filled my boat up amd drenched some of my electronics the third night we were there. Luckily we woke up to the howling winds to check on the boat which was filled above the seats(still floating though unbeleivably). My vexilar, binoculars, and hand held GPS(Lowrance global map 100) were all soaked and ruined. Unfortunately I did not download my coordinates on the unit, and am in a state of depression due to the loss of irreplacable coordinates, most of which I use for ice fishing, and that took years to accumulate. The unit still turns on, but the screen is missing some 'lines' and the buttons do not work. Does anyone know of of a local expert on these things, that could check to see if I still have the memory? I'd like to take it to someone local and send it in as a last option.

Thanks,

Jason Schillinger

Location: Athens, Ohio | Just a suggestion, contact the manufacturer and see if you can send them the unit, maybe they can get some of the memory back. My only other idea is, that when all else fails with electronics, find a teenage hacker and he can solve the problem. good luck on this, m |

Location: north central wisconsin |
Mike,

It is interesting that you mention the teenage hacker thing. The son of the owner of the Island we stayed on in Vermillion Bay seemed to know more about the thing than i did, and he had never even seen one before. He helped me dry it out and at least get the screen working again. I then took him musky fishing for his first time, and he at least got to see a monster follow my lure, which then followed his. After seeing that fish, he was waiting on the dock each morning to go again.
|

| Jason,
If you have the download cable, then you can get your waypoints from the GPS. Funny that the unit had a problem, as it is supposed to be waterproof. Mine spent a day in a cooler of water, and worked just fine afterwards. If you don't have the cable, or the transfer software, let me know. next time I'm at the mom-in-law's, we'll get together, and I'll help you out. |

Location: Black Creek, WI | Yah, I had the same idea as Shep. Your LCD screen may be fried, but if you can connect to your PC you may be able to retrieve the data (waypoints). I also have a set of PC cables for the Global Map 100 if you need to borrow them. Good Luck with the recovery project!

Location: north central wisconsin |
Hey guys, Thanks a ton for the info and offer. I have been looking around the house here, and at my moms house for the cables but cannot come up with them. I may just take you up on the offer. One problem, I cannot use the keyboard on the unit either, though it does turn on, on its own when I put the batteries in. Yeah, it is weird, I have gotten it wet before, but this time seemed to be the end.

Thanks,

J
|

| This will sound goofy, but if all else fails take the unit and put it in your oven on EXTREMELY LOW heat for a couple hours. I did this to a cell phone that went for a swim and it worked for another year. Might be worth a shot. |

| Jason,
If it turns on, you will be able to download any waypoints that are still in it. I could mail my data cable if you can't wait for me to get to Adams area. Let me know. |

| I had a Gobal Map 100 in my boat on the trailer at AML and a bad lighting storm went through during the night. Next day - my unit did not work. I lost all my way points and had to find my way around Eagle, the old fashion way - with a map and a compass! Real bummer. Lowrance gave me a new one for about $80. |

The big thing is how was the trip, any pigs on Eagle you put the hooks to?

Location: north central wisconsin | 45.5" was the biggest we boated. I did get hooks into the same 48-49" fish twice, and the second time(4 days after the first), she left two teeth in my Reef Hawg. I did get the chance to witness two Eagle Beast that the place is famous for. The first one followed a big joe and was 52ish and fair girth, the second one grabbed my homemade spinner on the second to last night we were there. I didn't see her, but she chewed up the 9" grub behind the hook of the lure. Went back to the very same rock the next morning and she followed right out in the same spot and went around the 8 twice. What a sight to behold. 54-55" and build to match. Even with the tough week we had weather/equipment/turnover/rain/not so good fishing-wise, I can honestly say I'd make the trek back there again to try for that fish. Our lodging was excellent as we stayed right on an island in Vermillion Bay, and had good fishing right out in front of our docks each morning. I just wish I would have had my boat in a better, more wind secluded location when the blow came in Sunday night. |
