Location: Pulaski, WI | I have a Lamiglas Hughes River Special I got en eBay. I like the rod a lot, very stiff, but the rod tip insert is cracked. Can I send it to Lamiglas for repair, orjust take it to the local tackle shop? The tip appears to be wrapped on.
Thanks,

Location: Minnetonka , MN. | I take all my rods to Thorne Bros. they do good work. If it's just the tip you could do it yourself . A little heat and you can pull the tip off. You need to get a new tip and some rod tip glue it come in a stick and has to be heated to apply.

| JLR...i have the same rod,i have replaced the tip a few times now..finally i have done it the right way. That tip is not wrapped on, all thought it appears to be. use a razor blade to finely cut that coating that goes over the rod onto the base of the tip. the tip is glued on. when you heat the clue w/ a lighter, the clue will be come soft and you can twist the tip off. use pliers to hold tip and turn it off. don't heat keep heating and heating until it super hot. the glue will soften when it hot. but you will have to twist it/turn it. make a nice cut w/ razor blade to from that "clear coat" on the rod to your rod tip...just a fine circle around the top, against the base of the rod tip, but not too deep.
I have got 2 replacement tips for my HR from Lamiglas and i have broke all them...So, here's what i suggest. Get a good metal salwater tip. i ordered my from cabelas, but now i dont see the ones i ordered on there. get Gold & Silver Titanium Nitride tips. they are SUPER hard, so super lines wont nick them, it will be the the last rod tip you will need.
email me if you want and i can check tonight to see if i have part #'s at home and what not. dont get a cheap $5 metal tip...get a good one...$10 to $25 for one tip.
