Subject: St. Croix Premier Vs. Avid

Hi,
Just purchased a Calcutta TE401 and I want to pair it up with a St. Croix to do big cranks and jerkbaits.
I have had good luck with other St. Croix Premier rods, and their service/warranty is terrific, so I'm loyal to St. Croix. Any comments from anyone on weather or not you really feel a difference between Avid Musky rods and the premier series? I know the Avid has the lifetime warranty, and that may be worth the extra money right there based on the great service I've had from them already, but I can't put my hands on an Avid to compare it to a Premier here in Central Indiana.
Thanks for the help!
Whit

Whit,
I would strongly recommend you go with the extra $80.00 or so and purchase the Avid! Galyan's used to gaurantee the Premier's for life, but since they were recently purchased, I am betting Dick's will not honor all those Premier Rods Galyans has sold over the years!
I know Galyans was the only store which would replace the Premeir rods! All other stores will advise you to send your rod to St Croix directly. St. Croix will then make a determination whether to repair or replace, possibly at your expense!
A few years ago a broke an 8' Premier! To save a lot of typing, suffice to say, I was furious with myself for not paying the extra $80.00 at the time and going with the top of line Avid!
A side note here! You say you live in Central Indiana? Have you been out to Willet's Tackle Towne in Greenfield? I can't think of the owners name right now, but he has nice custoom rods! He contract's a former emplyee of G Loomis to make all his rods! They are comparable in price to an Avid, but the gaurantee is 100%, no questions asked!

I highly reccomend the Premier's myself.. Of course if you can afford the Avid it might be worth buying one, but like I said, I like my Premiers...

Go for the 7'6" H Avid. I've run them all and that's by far the best of the bunch. It loads VERY nice and it's very user friendly IMOP. Next year when I get my rod alotment I'm getting 3. It's feels lighter then the 8'er and it's stiffer as well. I use it for everything except small gliders.

Try Thorne Bro's for the best price/promotions: www.thornebros.com. If they don't have one they can get you one easy enough.
