| how do you guys measure your fishes girth? | |
| | |
| Use a sewing tape or other flexible measure tape of some sort (I also have one from Angler's Haven resort), and measure girth at the fish's largest mid section point, and also check to see if that girth is consistent. All of my largest fish have had huge girths and were thick throughout their entire length.

| Measure girth at the largest point, which is usually a few inches behind the front pectoral fins. Use a cloth measuring tape which is available at any fabric or sewing type store, as well as most craft stores. Do it while the fish is in the water. I always do mine last thing after a pic (if one is taken) as I have the fish in the water ready for release. As I'm holding the fish by the tail and beginning to move it slowly back and forth, I have my partner do a girth measurement if I feel one is needed. I also measure length the same way, after I have taken a pic and the fish is in the water ready for release. I have a floating ruler so it's very easy to do and doing all measurements while the fish is in the water keeps the time the fish is out of the water to an absolute minimum of literally a few seconds for a pic or two. | |
