| Muskie fishing is fairly new to Maine and myself. The water that I'm fishing is fairly deep lake averaging about 100' in depth with really decent structure. Most of the fish I'm marking on FF are in the 25'-35' range. I have been trolling at about 3-3.5mph but after reading this site I know I have to speed up but I don't know what to use for fast lures. The water is very tainted and has an awefull lot of current. Any thoughts or suggestions on rods, reels, lures and terminal tackle would be a big help as no one up here really has a clue to how to fish them!

| Jigmaster,
Have fished some of your Maine waters and really loved it. Wasn't on any muskie waters, but I did fish some pretty deep lakes. The lakes I fished had a lot of rocks in them with very little to no weeds. If I remember correctly, in many Maine waters there are a lot of trout and landlocked salmon. First thing would be to pinpoint the forage in the lakes that you are fishing. Try and match some of your lures to the forage. I would personally be trolling baits like Believers, Grandmas, etc. Second, as far as tackle goes, I don't know how much you are looking to spend, but as far as rods go, your St. Croix Premier series is good. Alot of guys including myself use Abu Garcia reels, which are good and aren't outrageously expensive. I've read some good things about the muskie fishery in Maine and I do hope that one day I will be able to fish there. All the best.
