I am planning on heading down to shelbyville this weekend and was wondering if anyone had any reports. I have heard that there have been some nice fish caught lately.I read something about a 53 caught in wolf creek i think was the name in wednesdays paper. Can anyone tell me were this is and is there good fishing in that area. I hear alot of people talk about lithia springs and the dam area. Can anyone please help me. Also were is a good place to stay and launch boat. Thanks

Can't confirm or deny the 53" from Wolf, but there was a 53" caught down south last year which is the largest recorded (length wise) muskie caught in IL waters. You're going to run into slighlty dirtier water in the Wolf Creek area, but there is a lot of structure there and not too much pressure from muskie fishermen. Lithia and the timbered coves near the dam all the way up to the entrance to Wolf are good bets. Main lake points with DEEP water nearby are definately worth trying. Have a spinnerbait, 6-8" Jake or Super Shad Rap, and some kind of soft plastic rigged up and you'll be good to go. If you can't contact anything on conventional muskie stuff, try downsizing to bass gear and fish the same spots.

Lithia has a campground and a decent boat launch, plus access to some great fishing right at the ramp. The Spillway Motel might be a good choice because of its close proximity to the spillway and some of the hottest muskie action around (IMHO). If you stay there, you can launch from the 9th Street ramp which has a huge parking lot and a four-boat ramp. Good luck and please let us know how you do, good or bad.
