| The past 4 years my buddies and I have fished Vilas County for a week. We havent had much luck.
We are heading up on Labor day to Arbor Vitae and fishing all week. Any info as to what types of lakes/structure we
should hit this time of year? I heard the lake temps are between 60-66 degrees on most lakes right now. Should I be
fishing a summer pattern or a fall pattern? Will the shallower lakes turn on before the big ones? It will be going
into a new moon so will that help or hurt night fishing? It is usually pretty dead up there following Labor Day
weekend but we never had much luck. Should we try and schedule it for later in the year like October/November?
The week after Labor Day really works for us but I would switch it next year if it is really worth it.

Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | I've been fishing Vilas for about 20+ years now....after last weekend's Man Chain WMT, I need help too!!
What we saw was fish really shallow and fish suspended over deep water, so it's a "crap shoot"!
The one consistant presentation that really seemed to be moving fish was top waters. So my suggestion to you is not to look at your water temp gauge, but think "active fish".

Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | A few small lakes that would be good to fish: Kentuck, 7 Mile, Horsehead
Small lakes, easy to read, plenty of fish, and big fish.
Jackpots and Pacemakers (the larger one) in the morning over the shallow weed edges/flats
Bulldawgs and some sort of larger glide baits during the afternoon
Switch back to the topwaters late in the evening-dark.
That is what I would be doing if I was up there..... |

Location: Stevens Point, WI | The fish have definately been very shallow with most of the ones I've taken in the slop on dark water lakes. The Slopmaster has been very effective for me the last few weeks and I plan on throwing it a lot tomorrow. The topwater bite has been very good to me lately as well with most action on Pacemakers and Topraiders, but a few fish going after Docs and Dancin Raiders. |

Location: Oconto Falls, WI | I have been pretty much been fishing Fall patterns all year. Not big on fishing shallow fish anyway, but I have been having a lot of success fishing deep. Bulldawgs and cranks have been my #1 producers along deep breaklines and weed edges. The suspended fish have been cooperating once in awhile as well, but on some days it has been a crap-shoot.
I don't fish Arbor Vitae so I couldn't help out much there. As far as new moon and it hurting nightfishing I would doubt it. New moon is my favorite moon phase, but that goes for day fishing. I would definitely try night fishing as my last couple nights out have been very fruitfull! Give bulldawgs, big joes, or twin fins a try at night. Mid lake humps and underwater points have been the key.
My personal preferance would be to fish the deep, clear lakes. There water temps don't fluctuate as drastically as the shallower, dark water lakes when fronts come through. The big fish are really starting to show right now, so good luck.

Location: Wales Wi. | I dont know if your talking about Big or Little Arb..but my sister in law lives on Big and I have fished it a bunch. Should have fished Little more because some realy big fish were caught on it last year a 53" and a few others in that range. On Big I like to do the top water thing after dark this time of year and do ok on 30 to 40" fish ..never pulled a slob there yet but Im working on it. I throw black creepers alot, dont know why ..just like slower stuff after dark..but always get action on one of the points they have good weed beds and steep drops. Howie. |

We have a cabin on Little Spider lake in Arbor Vitae but we usually trailer our boats all over the county during the week. So
any lake is not out of the question.
We have fished Star, Whitesand, Irving/Ballard and the Big/Little Arbor lakes. None of us are really that good at picking
lakes. Usually we fish big, clear lakes when it is cloudy and smaller stained waters when it is sunny. Other than that we
are basically a bunch of chickens with our heads cut off while we are up there.
We have always wanted to hit crab but I read it is a navigational nightmare. We are kind of strapped for cash as we
thought there would be more of us going this year but a few buddies backed out during the last minute.
Is there any guides up there willing to give us a few tips for a few pitchers of beer or cash? I know Im looking forward
to being up in Gods country and doing some Jaeg-Bombs!!!

Location: West Chester, OH | Just returned from a long weekend there. Fished 3 lakes - all different types. Saw fish on each but only 1 opened her mouth. The ONLY thing they'd look @ was "slow wood."
My unprofessional opinion is that it looks like an early Fall.
