| Noticed today some of the squirrel ears are white....anyone else seen this phenomenon? Kept looking at them + sure enough the tips were white on some but not all...thinks it's a genetic thing or an abnormality? [:sun:] |

| Old Squirrels ? |

|
| Not if they start chewing on the side of the house again!!! Nailed 17 of them last year + must have gotten rid of the "cedar eaters"....these appear to be young John + they travel from oak grove to grove....the nuts are pretty much gone here around the house but Monica puts out bird seed so they may be coming in for that.....[:sun:] |

| I pointed the same thing out last weekend at my fiance's parents house, they live near New London. I wonder if that happens just before winter, or if i've just never noticed it before. |

| Glad someone else knows what I'm talking about...thought I was going nuts there for a few! Wonder if they came south or if some of them from here went north? [;)] Is odd though....if they become dominant etc....
should have known it is impossible to be half serious here[;)] ....no need to cross legs...work already has me there![:0] [:sun:] |

| Sponge in my many years of squrriel hunting I have found that as many as 50% of them have white tipped ears. I think it is just a matter of genes from other family members.
Hope this helps

| Didn't notice any genes but 2 were wearing corduroys! Sorry.....Sounds good to me! Now hopefully they will erase this serious but embarassing post! Figured it might have been something like you said but was hoping I'd discovered a new lineage of Rocky![:sun:] |

| It is a 'Lord Of the Rings' thing... |

| I'm not trying to sound like I know what I'm talking about here.....but I've always noticed that as winter gets closer a squirrels ears will get bushier and tend to look whiteish.
An old guy once told me that you can tell how bad the winter is going to be by how thick the hair gets on a squirrels ears. Bushy ears-bad winter, not bushy-global warming.
You would think that if anybody here would know about squirrels, it would be Spongy.

| Mr. Sponge, I trust that wardens are few and far between in Virginia,
acknowledging that you poached hundreds of endangered species such as the East Coast strain of the White Eared Grey (Bird Seed Eating) Squirrel could land you in Tree Hugger"s Prison!
It could be embarrassing to be in a lock down strip search at prison, with your cell mates telling you that they were "in" for bank robbery and attempted murder, and you have to say you shot squirrels out of season!
Incidentally, I have seen a number of squirrels with this ear condition, while hunting in north central Wisconsin. They all were showing signs of previous injuries from gun shots. They all had Viginian accents and were heading north! |
